The so-called "rinsing the mouth and swallowing" refers to: Whoever has two esophagi, that is the second esophagus. After eating, in the afternoon at an improper time, he burps like a cow, and the food regurgitates and is chewed again. First, he spits out two or three times, and then rinses his mouth, swallowing the residue. This is to avoid the faults of filtering, dripping, and unpleasantness. Spitting out two or three times is to avoid the harm caused by saliva and the like. Rinsing the mouth is to separate the contents of the mouth. The so-called "that is not 'ba'" means: What is related to burping is only food. Therefore, at other improper times and when abandoning food, if one burps, one should rinse the mouth. Because what is related to burping is food, therefore, other than those with two esophagi, if a person with only one esophagus burps at an improper time or when abandoning food, one should rinse the mouth. Now, from here on, we will discuss which are the situations where the continuity of food is interrupted. The so-called "do not spit in an unprepared place" means: In whichever direction of the monastery where a place for the Sangha to spit has not been prepared, do not spit there randomly, nor sweep it. The so-called "also do not sweep" means: Even if it is not the direction of the Sangha, do not spit in a place that someone has swept with saliva or the like. The so-called "also do not flick the tongue" means: Do not flick the tongue, making a "tst" sound, and do not spit in that direction. The so-called "do not make that and that sound in front of the Buddha image and the Guru" means: Do not make the act of spitting and the sound of spitting, "Hakte," in front of the Buddha image and the abbot, etc. The so-called "also do not do it while eating" means: That and that sound. The so-called "do not repeatedly make the residue in front" means: Do not repeatedly make that and that sound in front of the Buddha image, the Guru, the remnants of food, and other monks. The so-called "if you cannot, go elsewhere" means: If you cannot abide by the prohibition of spitting and making sounds, then you should go to another place.

Not causing discomfort to others means not causing discomfort to others in any way. Here, the scripture says that a monk should not spit before eating, nor should he spit before drinking, nor should he spit on the swept ground, nor should a monk spit in unprepared places, and so on. The following summarizes not causing discomfort to others: one should not fall asleep snoring, meaning that a person who snores loudly should not sleep in front of others. If one should avoid snoring, what should one do? Therefore, it is said that to avoid snoring, one should stay awake or go elsewhere. Staying awake is to prevent falling asleep, or going elsewhere. That container, like an elephant's footprint or stacked, means a spittoon, a copper spittoon like the one mentioned earlier. If there is no copper one, use the one mentioned later. Like an elephant's footprint, it means the bottom of the copper spittoon is flat. Stacked means placing the copper spittoon on a bhṛd-ga-ra (Sanskrit), a support or iron frame. It should be placed in the sun, referring to that spittoon. Pour brick powder, sand, or ashes into it, referring to that spittoon. What is the remedy for preventing flies from gathering there? Therefore, it is said that driving away flies is the remedy, covering it with soil or leaves, etc. To prevent it from going bad and breeding creatures, the spittoon should be washed and dried regularly. For that time, others should be placed nearby, referring to placing the lid of the spittoon nearby for washing and drying. To prevent separation, spittoons should also be placed on the sides of the four pillars of the temple's monastic residence, meaning that to avoid leaving the spittoon, the lids of the spittoons should also be placed in those places. One should not make wind with sound, meaning one should not make farting sounds. One should not fart in front of the Three Jewels and the Guru, even without sound.
