This is to prohibit living by wrong livelihood. Here, the scripture says that if one seeks to obtain from non-maternal sources through the gate of Dharma, and makes a living by selling Dharma, the Blessed One would instruct: One should not seek through the gate of Dharma, nor should one make a living by selling Dharma. If there is no water, one can wash the feet with whey water and other juices, which means that if there is no water, one can wash the feet with whey water, milk serum, coarse residue, and so on. Washing the feet is just an example, and for actions such as defecating and urinating, if there is no water, there is no fault in washing with these things. This is distinguished from the rule below that "food should not be trampled with the feet." One should sit on a grass mat, which means when there is no other mat. Placing it uncovered on one side means when one is not using the grass mat. It can be piled up, which means that not only can it be placed separately, but it can also be piled up. Discarding it at the end means that after the task is finished, the grass mat should be discarded. If there are many monks, this means that if there are many monks and there are not enough mats, grass mats can be used. It is also permissible for the rows not to be in order, which is also related to "it is permissible when there are many monks," meaning that if there are many monks, it is also permissible for the rows not to be in order. How much is the quantity? Therefore, it is said, "a row of five hundred," which means that one row can accommodate five hundred monks, or less, and can be arranged in a long row. A common heap should be made at the end of each elder, which means that at the end of each elder in the row, a common heap of food and drink should be set up. If the distributors steal, inspectors should be appointed, which means that if the person in charge of distributing food and the attendants steal, monks should be appointed to inspect. Those who prepare the food should eat first, which means that those who are responsible for cleaning and other food preparation work should eat a little first, and then do the work of distributing, etc., which is the meaning of this sentence. During large gatherings, in order to allow the elders to sit in order and for the purpose of distribution, the monks
