Regarding the statement that "blessings do not take effect on what has not been taken, what has been left overnight inside, what has been boiled inside, and what has been boiled by a monk," the scripture here says: "Monk, can one partake of medicines that are suitable for eating at the proper time, suitable for eating at half-time, suitable for keeping for seven days, and suitable for keeping for a lifetime, if they have been taken with the hand, have not been blessed and received, have been left overnight inside, have been boiled inside, have been boiled by oneself, or have been boiled by a monk?" Ananda, one should not partake of them." Regarding the statement that "if the taste and consistency are completely changed, it is considered spoiled," it means that if the taste of a blessed drink, such as grape juice, which is not intoxicating, is completely changed to become intoxicating, and if what appears to be thin is completely changed to no longer appear thin, then it is considered spoiled. This refers to something that has been blessed and received. It does not apply to something that has not been blessed and received, because it is impossible for something that has not been blessed and received to spoil. If both the taste and consistency are completely changed, it should not be drunk. If only the taste is completely changed, it should not be drunk. If only the consistency is completely changed, it should not be drunk, because it has not been blessed and received. Therefore, if a drink has been blessed and received, and the taste and consistency are completely changed, it is considered spoiled even before the end of its expiration date. That is the meaning here. These two conditions indicate that the nature has changed. Therefore, if one of these two conditions changes, it is considered spoiled. Here, in the context of a drink made from granulated sugar, the scripture says: "Monk, is it permissible to bless a strained drink that is suitable for drinking within seven days?" Ananda, it is permissible. "Monk, how long should it be kept?" Ananda, it should be kept until it becomes very thin, does not turn sour, and does not lose its nature." Regarding the statement that "blessed food should not be consumed together with unblessed food," it means that blessed food suitable for eating at half-time should not be consumed together with food suitable for eating at the proper time; blessed food suitable for eating within seven days,

One should not partake together with that which has been blessed, is suitable for eating at any time, and is suitable for eating at certain times. Nor should one partake together with that which has been blessed, is suitable for eating at any time, is suitable for eating at certain times, and is kept for seven days, during the period of sustaining life. Here, since there is no specific distinction, it should be understood that the time of blessing and storage occurs simultaneously. Here, the text is about Maudgalyayana's son. Regarding this, whatever is suitable for eating at certain times, whatever is kept for seven days, and whatever is separated during the period of sustaining life, if it is mixed with that which is suitable for eating at any time, one should not partake. Whatever is kept for seven days, and whatever is separated during the period of sustaining life, if it is mixed with that which is suitable for eating at certain times, one should also not partake. Whatever is separated during the period of sustaining life, if it is mixed with that which is kept for seven days, one should also not partake, so it is said. The order of medicines is an example, so it is said. Previously it was said that there are four types, namely, that which is suitable for eating at any time and that which is suitable for eating at certain times, that which is kept for seven days and that which is kept during the period of sustaining life. The order of mentioning these four types of medicines is merely an example. Therefore, this also includes eye medicine and so on. Therefore, it is said that one should use eye medicine, and eye medicine is permissible to use. One should not use it for non-medicinal purposes, that is to say, the purpose of adornment is not a medicinal purpose, and one should not use eye medicine for this purpose. Its container is appropriate, meaning that the appropriate container for eye medicine should be placed nearby. If one asks what the container is, therefore it is said that the eye medicine for dates is a treasure chest. The eye medicine for beeswax is a small box, meaning that its container is a small box. The eye medicine for smoke, mixtures, and powders, their containers are bamboo tubes and so on. One should hold an eye stick, this is for applying to the eyes. That which is made of copper and iron is good, this refers to the eye stick. If one asks whether both of these are good, therefore it is said that those which are naturally formed, meaning those which are naturally formed or melted and cast.
