A monk who is lacking food can consume blessed brown sugar, just like a sick person. Furthermore, suitable items like butter and sesame oil can be consumed even when it is not the right time, and all seven-day foods and lifetime provisions can be consumed. Like brown sugar, honey can also be consumed at inappropriate times. The Blessed One accepted honey from a monkey and deemed it permissible. Therefore, it is appropriate to consume honey like a drink, before noon. Now, let us discuss the four categories. The term 'suitable time' refers to all edible items that can be consumed at the appropriate time, so there is no need to mention it separately because there is no distinction. We will discuss items suitable for a specific time, seven-day foods, and lifetime provisions. Therefore, it is said that items suitable for a specific time are drinks. Here, the rule for drinks suitable for a specific time that a sick person should bless is that those prepared by a householder or a novice monk and strained with a cloth are suitable for a specific time. The rule for all unblessed drinks suitable for a specific time is that these eight fruits prepared by a householder or a novice monk and strained with a cloth can be drunk whether it is the right time or not, whether one is sick or not, and there is no need to regret it. The term 'very easy' means that the statement 'items suitable for a specific time are drinks' is its explanation. Because its substance is not the drink itself, if it is suitable for a specific time, it should be prepared and strained with a cloth by someone who has not taken full ordination. The term 'its substance' refers to the substance of the drink. The term 'not the drink itself' means it is not the drink itself. The term 'if it is suitable for a specific time' means that if the substance from which the drink is made is suitable for a specific time, then at that time, the substance should be prepared by someone who has not taken full ordination, such as by boiling, and strained with a cloth. If it is not suitable for a specific time but can be consumed, then there is no fault in preparing and straining it even by someone who has taken full ordination. Among these foods, there are also ingredients such as Nepalese apples and Madulunga.
