So it is. Here, the Vinaya also states, "Is it permissible for a monk to enter a town with an unsewn Dharma garment? It is not permissible to attend closely." If such circumstances exist, then it is permissible. The Vinaya and reasoning, these two are the same as before. The Dharma garment mentioned here should be understood as a patchwork robe. It is the same in the dwelling places of other non-Buddhists, meaning that without such circumstances, an unsewn patchwork robe should not be entered or resided in the dwelling places of non-Buddhists. Even if the unsewn patchwork robe is in the dwelling place of non-Buddhists, and the non-Buddhists do not closely abide there, it is still not permissible to enter or reside. It is said thus: Even if the non-Buddhists do not closely reside in that dwelling place, if there are no such circumstances, the unsewn patchwork robe should not be entered or resided there. If such circumstances exist, then it is permissible. If they abide, it is not permissible to enter or reside, meaning that in the dwelling places of non-Buddhists, if the non-Buddhists abide, even if such circumstances exist, it is not permissible to enter or reside in the dwelling place of non-Buddhists without a patchwork robe. Like this, a sewn Dharma garment is similar to the clothes of wandering ascetics and other non-Buddhists, so entering there and residing, whoever it may be, will be suspected of adhering to their sect, therefore it is prohibited here. The Vinaya text here is, "Can a monk go to the dwelling place of wandering ascetics without a patchwork robe?" It is not permissible to attend closely. If the wandering ascetics go outside, then it is permissible. If there are no non-Buddhists abiding there, it is a Vinaya text that allows walking because of such circumstances. Woolen items are not blessed as the three Dharma garments, meaning if there are no such circumstances. It is not used as clothing to be worn, meaning that woolen items should not be worn on the body as clothing that is not bedding, and this is also if there are no such circumstances. Lice can be possessed, meaning it is permissible to hold them, and here "can be possessed" is said to mean permissible. There are four types, meaning that there are four types of lice.

It is also said that it is made of coarse wool fabric, made of zarma, made of dugula, and made of cotton wool. Although it is not impossible for the sanghati made of animal skin, etc., it is not mentioned here from the root because it is not beautiful. Other fabrics such as short hair are also allowed to be owned. The so-called "short hair" refers to short and thick felt, that is, calf hair fabric. Other hairy ones, if they are also like that, are also allowed to be owned. "Lava is also okay" is also allowed to be owned, which is said because it is not short hair. If there is no harm, it is okay to wear the hair outwards, otherwise it is not okay. It means that if that lava has no dirt and lice, etc., the hair should not be worn outwards as an outer garment. If there is harm, there is no fault. Here the scripture says that there is no downfall for those with dirt and lice. The so-called "otherwise not okay" means that there is no fault in wearing it inside out. Wearing it like that will not break the precepts. It means that wearing that lava inside out will not break the precepts. This specifically excludes the case of "if there is harm", meaning that even if there is harm, wearing it like that will not break the precepts. Here the scripture says that the Blessed One said that a bhikkhu should not wear lava with the hair outwards, and the bhikkhus obtained lava clothes from the house of the shepherd, and those bhikkhus were bitten by lice because there were many lice, and those bhikkhus reported to the Blessed One, and the Blessed One instructed: Lava can be worn with the hair outwards, and can be sat on and lied on. It will not break the precepts. The so-called Persian lava, calf hair and patterned cushions should not be owned by individuals. The so-called lava produced in Persia is called Persian lava, because it is very precious, it is forbidden. The kind of calf hair fabric with long hair is called calf hair, because patterns like flowers appear on it, it is forbidden. Patterned cushions are forbidden because they are bright. Those things should not be owned by individuals. Only obtaining and receiving.
