The small size is two finger-widths or the size of a thumb's belly. It is said that the space between them is the medium size. Thus, here the meaning of the words is: four finger-widths is the large size of the Dharma garment. Three and a half finger-widths, two finger-widths, and one thumb-finger-width are the small sizes of the Dharma garment. The medium is the middle one. "Do not spread the Dharma garment on the ground" means do not spread the Dharma garment on the ground. "To make it fixed for that purpose" means to make a firm stretch for the purpose of spreading the Dharma garment. "That which is made of wood or made of bamboo, or that which has holes made for threading ropes for the purpose of creating a square, is called 'that'" means that whatever rope is threaded through the hole that is made for the purpose of cutting and spreading, that is called fixed. If you ask how much that size should be, for that purpose it is said, "How big is the Dharma garment?" meaning it should be made to a size that matches the Dharma garment. Since there are many different sizes of Dharma garments, many fixings must also be made. "Measuring with a knife" means the Dharma garment. "To hold that" means that knife. If you ask what shape it should be, for that purpose it is said, "Like a crow's beak or like a jackdaw's wing," meaning it should be made in that shape. If you ask what it is made of, for that purpose it is said, "It is not made of anything other than iron," meaning that which is hammered from iron is made of iron, and it should not be made of anything other than that. "Do not hold one with a handle or a fancy one" means: Do not hold a knife with a handle that has resin, or that is coated with fragrant substances such as hard resin, or that has patterns such as silk color patterns, raised lines, etc. "Do not hold one that is more than six finger-widths" means do not hold a knife whose length is more than six finger-widths. Here it says that there are three kinds of knives: large, medium, and small. The large one is six finger-widths. The small one is four finger-widths. It is said that the space between them is the medium one. Some say, "Do not hold one that is more than eight finger-widths," meaning that some texts say that you should not hold a knife that is more than eight finger-widths. Here it says that the large one is eight finger-widths. "One that is shorter than four finger-widths is not necessary" means that one that is shorter than that is not useful for anything, so that one

It should not be held. The so-called sewing after smearing with heavy dirt means that in order to prevent dust from rising from the hard part of sewing the kasaya, whether directly or indirectly, it should be sewn after smearing with heavy dirt. This is to avoid being soiled by dust. If there is no heavy dirt, it should be sewn after wetting with water and sweeping, which means that the kasaya should be sewn in a place where it is wetted with water and swept with a broom if there is no heavy dirt. The so-called sewing means that the bhikshu can sew that kasaya. Here, the sutra says that the bhikshus sew the kasaya with crow's wings or bamboo fragments. The sutra also says that other things suitable for sewing should be sewn, so this sutra was made. The so-called using a needle is also possible, and the word "also" indicates that not only crow's wings and bamboo fragments can be used, but also needles can be used for sewing. The sutra for weaving nets is that it is not allowed for bhikshus to weave nets with their hands. The Blessed One taught: Nets should be woven with a knife. The sutra for needles is that when bhikshus sew the kasaya with crow's wings and bamboo fragments, the Blessed One taught: Needles should be held. The so-called holding refers to that needle. One should not hold needles made of materials other than copper, bronze, tin, and iron, which means that one should not hold needles made of materials other than copper and other materials. Some sutras say that needles made of sharp copper and iron should be held. The so-called sharp refers to another property of those two materials. The eye of that needle should be cut like a pore or a crack, which means that the eye of that needle should be held like a pore or a crack, which can be easily separated. One should not rely on shameless bhikshus and shramaneras, which means that one should not rely on shameless bhikshus and shramaneras to use that broken needle. The same applies to unfriendly, unmindful, and unnatural people, which means for unfriendly people
