If one is impoverished by that, then one should take it at that time. If the householder does not enter for the sake of giving, then who has the right at that time? Therefore, if the householder does not give, it is said, "It is in accordance with begging." Here, too, it should be understood as connected to "having the right and being impoverished by it." If the householder does not give arbitrarily, then at that time, whichever ordained person who has the right and is impoverished by it begs from that householder, then that ordained person who is in accordance with begging has the right. If they beg simultaneously, then it is owned in common. If they beg gradually, then the meaning of "first" is: if they beg gradually, then whoever begs first has the right there. If no one takes it, or even if someone takes it, if the householder does not specifically designate anyone, but thinks, "Whoever takes it, let them take it," and throws it away, then who has the right to it at that time? Therefore, it is said, "There is none; if it is thrown away without being designated, it is in accordance with going." If no one takes it and it is thrown away without being specifically designated to anyone, then at that time, the one who goes there first is said to be "in accordance with going," which means that he has the right. Therefore, it is said, "This is similar to gradual," just as in gradual begging, whoever begs first has the right, so too here. If a creditor appears, then the creditor has the right to the deceased's belongings in the amount that should be repaid to him. What does this mean? If a creditor appears after the death, then at that time, the creditor has the right to the deceased's belongings in the amount of the property that should be repaid by the deceased to that creditor. To dispel the doubt that "if it appears before it is distributed, then it should be repaid; if it appears after it is distributed, then it should not be repaid," it is said, "Even if it is distributed, it is still the same," and it should be connected to "should be repaid." Together with that, whether it should be given or should be taken, what is it? The meaning of "it is not that" is: the deceased, the debt collection, and the debt repayment are arranged together. That is to say, it is obvious that if a bhikshu collects a debt, the value that should be repaid, and whatever remains that the bhikshu should take from the debt repayment, that itself is repayment and taking.

If the deceased borrowed something out of faith, or pledged something to repay a debt, it should not be actually measured and claimed. For example, if the deceased borrowed a large piece of cloth from a merchant, promising to pay the price, then the price should be paid, but the large piece of cloth should not be actually paid. Or, if property was pledged as collateral for a large piece of cloth, then the large piece of cloth should be claimed, but the pledged property should not be claimed. Here, the scripture says that the monks requested (the deceased) to give a little, and then said, 'Venerable ones, I will give him more.' The Blessed One instructed, 'It should be given according to what the deceased pledged.' Therefore, the debt owed by the deceased will not be transferred to those who practice with him. That is, the debt owed by the deceased will not be transferred to those who practice with him, and those who practice with him should not use their own bowls and robes to repay the debt of the deceased. This is the concluding statement. Chapter Fifty-Three. If a thief steals property dedicated to the Three Jewels, then it should be repaid equally. That is, if someone steals property dedicated to the Three Jewels, then it should be equally divided from the thief's estate and used to make offerings to the Three Jewels, repaying the stolen property. As it is said in the Vinaya: 'If the property of the Sangha is used for the stupa, or the property of the stupa is used for the Sangha, or similarly the Dharma is confused, then his bowl and robe should be divided into three parts, and the stolen part should be used for offerings, and the remainder should be offered to the Sangha.' Although it is said so, this is difficult for ordinary people to understand, and there is no fault in making extra offerings. Therefore, everything depends on the distribution. Mentioning the thief here is just an example, and if others steal, it can be handled in the same way. The meaning of thief is that because it is used for work, it is called thief. If (the deceased) has a servant, then he can control those six items, so there is no need for blessing.
