It should be recognized that this is the attainment of Dharma, but not the attainment of Nirvana Dharma. As it is said, "Holding one verse of a treatise is the limit of it here," a treatise refers to what was said by a sage. Holding one of its verses, for one who possesses the attainment of Dharma, it is the limit because he is a speaker of Dharma. This sutra comes from the basis of disputes. As it is said, "Regarding the belongings of the deceased of different disciplines, if there is another of the same kind, one should not possess them," different disciplines refer to the belongings of the deceased belonging to monks and novices, which nuns, female novices, etc., should not possess. Similarly, monks and novices should not possess the belongings of the deceased belonging to nuns and female novices. Is this always the case? It is not so, therefore it is said, "If there is another of the same kind," the same kind means that if there is another of the same kind, one of a different kind should not possess it. Thus it is taught: Wherever there is one of the same kind, one of a different kind should not possess it. Wherever there is no one of the same kind, one of a different kind may possess it. This sutra comes from the basis of matters. As it is said, "It is the same for those expelled from the Sangha," it refers to the belongings of the deceased belonging to those expelled from the Sangha. If there is one not expelled from the Sangha, one expelled from the Sangha should not possess it. If there is no one not expelled from the Sangha, one expelled from the Sangha may possess it. As it is said, "Even if there is none," it refers to the belongings of the deceased belonging to those who have not renounced their vows. Even if there is no one who has not renounced their vows, one who has renounced their vows should not possess it. Is this always the case? It is not so, therefore it is said, "If aversion does not arise from the cause," it refers to the cause of not seeing faults, etc. By what cause was the action of expelling from the Sangha done? If aversion does not arise from that cause and it is not prevented, then regarding the belongings of the deceased belonging to those not expelled from the Sangha, even if there is no one not expelled from the Sangha, one should not possess it. If aversion arises from the cause, one may possess it. Here, who possesses the treatise? Among them, who first abandons the aspect of the view of the wicked? Thus it is proclaimed. Therefore, it should be accepted.

Furthermore, the so-called "that is not different" means that for the funerary items of those who have renounced, they should be used, and those who have renounced are not different from those who have not renounced. It is shown in this way: for the funerary items of those who have renounced, they should be used, because those who have renounced are not different from those who have not renounced. For the funerary items of those who have renounced, even if there are other renunciates, those who have not renounced also have the right to use them, because those who have renounced are not different from the Sangha. The so-called "difference of... is difference" means that for the funerary items belonging to different sides of those who have vowed and those who have not vowed, because those two sides are different, for the funerary items belonging to different sides, they should be taken, which is difference, meaning that one side has no control over the other. It is shown in this way: for the funerary items belonging to the side of others, those belonging to the side of others have no control, similarly, for the funerary items belonging to the side that is in accordance with the Dharma, those belonging to the side that is not in accordance with the Dharma have no control, and for the funerary items belonging to the side that is not in accordance with the Dharma, those belonging to the side that is in accordance with the Dharma have no control. Here, the scripture says that in the place of those who have vowed, if a novice who has not vowed comes and passes away, and so on. Those who have vowed on the side that is in accordance with the Dharma are those who have vowed, and it should be understood that those who have vowed on the side that is not in accordance with the Dharma are those who have not vowed. The so-called "except for renunciates and celibates, others have no control" means that except for renunciates and celibates, relatives and kings, etc., have no control over the funerary items of renunciates, because only renunciates and celibates have control. Here, mentioning "renunciates" is to show that novices, female novices, and probationary nuns also have control. Mentioning "celibates" is to exclude other non-Buddhists. The so-called "those who have already been blessed through solicitation or the first and complete giving, later ones have no control" means that the funerary items have been blessed by the Sangha through solicitation.
