O! Even uncut ones are acceptable, meaning: if there are no other cut ones, then even uncut ones can be blessed. If a patch can be obtained, it should be sewn on, meaning: if the uncut one can obtain a piece of cloth remnant called a patch, it should be sewn on. A style suitable for home use is also acceptable, meaning: suitable for home use, referring to being suitable for use by lay householders. Style, meaning: the style of clothing like that, which can distinguish between good and bad, and superior and inferior, but is not the style of a monk's robes, this is a summary term. If there are no others, then that one can also be blessed. Felt, coarse cloth, calfskin, black cloth, and lion skin, without cutting, sewing on patches and stitching, meaning: it should be blessed as a monastic robe. Like this, other woolen materials cannot be blessed as the three monastic robes, although it is said so, but coarse cloth and calfskin may also shed hair, so here it refers to these two. Here, the scripture says: Monks, these five are different, all felt, all coarse cloth, all calfskin, all black cloth, all lion skin clothing, sewing on patches can be held. If the dwelling is soiled by uncleanliness, it should be mended on it, meaning: if the monastic community's or an individual's bedding and cushions are soiled by unclean things, do not stretch it out, it should be washed. Except for the monastic community's grass mats and stools, up to the cushions, without other coverings, and the cushion covers, do not allow clothes to separate them, it should be used, meaning: except for the monastic community's grass mats and stools, even up to the cushions, the monastic community's dwelling, without the monastic community's coverings, do not use your own coverings, and the monastic community's cushion covers, do not allow individual's clothes to separate them for use. Grass mats and stools refer to beds and stools woven with ropes of munja grass and kusha grass, etc., those without other coverings are also acceptable. Up to the cushions, meaning: not to mention mattresses, even the cushions that are usually sat on, one should not sit without coverings.

Where should it not be done? Therefore, here, even if it is just a limb touching, it should be known that a cushion needs to be laid down. What is called "not that" refers to a cushion that is not for the Sangha. What is called "one should not approach without a cushion" refers to without a personal cushion. What is called "cushion cover" refers to the clothes that are covered from above and the coverings that are laid on the ground to cover. For the Sangha's cushion cover, one should not approach without covering one's personal clothes. What is called "for all the colorful ones that are mostly undamaged, it is also okay," what is called "all" includes not only the Sangha's but also the individual's. What is called "colorful" refers to all the colorful things such as brocade, mule loads, and gold-woven fabrics. What is called "mostly undamaged" refers to not being very old. That is, for cushions and so on, one should not be without a cushion that is not that, and for cushion covers, one should not approach without covering. Here, what is called "not that" refers to both non-colorful and non-Sangha. What is called "one should not use inferior and dirty ones" means that one should not use inferior cushions and dirty cushions to use the Sangha's or individual's residence. What is called "one should carry a cushion" means that it should be carried by an individual. What is called "if it is thick, one is also okay" refers to that cushion. What is called "sparse ones need to be double-layered," what is called "sparse" means that if it becomes sparse, it needs to be made double-layered. What is called "gaudy ones are not good" means that whether it is thick or sparse, one should not carry cushions that are brightly colored and gaudy. What is called "one should make a patch on it" means that one should make a patch on that cushion like a patch on a Dharma robe. If you ask in which direction to do it? Therefore, it is said, "Therefore, at the first third of the lower part," what is called "lower part" refers to the edge of the foot. What is called "one-third" refers to leaving one-third at the edge of the foot and at the boundary where two-thirds are left on top. What is called "the first place" means that the boundary of one-third is the first part of the lower part, so just cut it there and make one patch like a patch on a Dharma robe, and do not do it at the end or in the middle.
