If hard objects are removed from all boundaries, will hard objects be removed from all those places? The vicinity will not change; those who remove them will remove the hard objects, and those who do not remove them will not remove the hard objects. If they are removed from only one boundary, then everyone will remove the hard objects, as the Buddha said. The term "separate in themselves, each separate" means that if they belong to the same place, and the Sangha is divided into two factions, if one faction removes them, the other faction will not remove them, that is the meaning. Here, the text is from a Bhikshuni Brahmin's daughter who asked: If the Sangha is divided in a place where hard objects have been laid, if one faction or the other removes the hard objects, can it be said that all of them have removed the hard objects? The vicinity will not change; those who remove them will remove the hard objects, and those who do not remove them will not remove the hard objects, as the Buddha said. Removing by those who have not laid them is not not removing, meaning: those who have vowed to stay in other places, who have not laid hard objects, are called not laid. Those who have not laid them, whatever hard objects they remove, it is not not removing, but removing. Here, the text is that some monks, after staying for the summer, laid hard objects, and went beyond the boundary, without expectation, and suddenly new monks came and removed the hard objects, can it be said that the hard objects have been removed? The vicinity can be said to have been removed. This is what the Buddha said. Not arising itself cannot be compensated, meaning: those who have vowed to stay in other places, where there is no arising of laying hard objects, this is called not arising. The person who cannot arise, for the monks who lay hard objects, cannot compensate for the Sangha that has not arisen, it can be compensated. Here, the text is that some monks vowed to stay alone for the summer, and after he had passed the three fasting days, he performed the Pravāraṇā.

After doing so, offering the Sangha a hard and flat Dharma robe, at which time monks suddenly arrive, and they also join in the ranks of laying out the hard and flat, if a dispute arises, who should obtain this Dharma robe? The attendant said: It should be obtained by that monk. Those who have not laid it out cannot take it out, it is not that it means: For those who have not laid out the hard and flat, that is, they have not laid it out. The person who has not laid it out taking out the hard and flat is not that it cannot make up for the vacancy when the Sangha has not risen, but it is possible. This is like what was said before, monks suddenly arrive, and they also join in the ranks of laying out the hard and flat, if a dispute arises, it is also possible to take out the hard and flat from there, which is obvious in meaning, so it is written briefly: Like this, if there is no making up for the vacancy, the act of taking out will not happen. Laying out the hard and flat without wearing the Sangha robe to enter the village, etc., and even entering places below the three-way intersection, there is no fault, this is saying: The monk lays out the hard and flat, without wearing the Sangha robe to enter the village, etc., there is no fault. The word "etc." includes entering the city, etc. Entering places below the three-way intersection means: There is no fault in staying in places below the three-way intersection of the transportation hub, this is a summary statement. This can be understood in meaning, in order to clarify this point, it is written briefly: The three situations mentioned before will not happen to those who have laid out the hard and flat, because it has already been explained. Here, the scripture says that the monks have laid out the hard and flat, What kind of negligent causes will there be in the residence? The attendant has ten kinds, what are these ten kinds? Eating repeatedly, eating together, walking without informing, wandering around at will wearing a lower skirt and upper garment, not separating day and night, not exceeding ten days, not exceeding one month, begging for as many clothes as one is satisfied with, holding as many unlawful clothes as one desires, from the sixteenth of the middle autumn month to the fifteenth of the first spring month, not urging the property of the summer retreat Sangha, etc. In addition, the World Honored One also said that the monk should live in other people's homes wearing a lower skirt and upper garment.
