That which is called "not climbing higher than a certain amount" means: Bhikshus, except when harm occurs, should train in not climbing trees higher than a certain amount. The detailed classification of the objects of training, in brief, is ninefold: wearing clothes, going to places of activity, sitting there on a mat, taking food, eating tsampa, using the alms bowl, teaching the Dharma, the manner of practice, and walking. These, from "one should train in wearing a round lower garment" to "except when harm occurs, one should train in not climbing trees higher than a certain amount," should be combined in order. That which is called "the trainings" means that many teachings of training have been explained. That which is called "the distinction of bhikshus is complete" means that it has been explained.// Having spoken of the distinction of bhikshus, now the distinction of bhikshunis will be spoken of. Because the difference in body causes a difference in thought, and the difference in thought causes a difference in downfall, and the difference in downfall causes a difference in precepts, therefore the Vinaya of bhikshunis must be established separately. Therefore, those bases of training for bhikshunis that are in accordance with those of bhikshus are distinguished by that very explanation of the distinction of bhikshus. The differences that are not in accordance will be stated here. In that, among the establishment of moral discipline for bhikshus, there are also those that are not for bhikshunis, such as praising universal conduct; and there are also those that are established as being lesser offenses, such as a bhikshu's emission of semen becoming a sanghavasesa, while for bhikshunis it becomes a patayantika; and there are also those that are established as being greater offenses, such as a bhikshu's bodily contact becoming a sanghavasesa, while for bhikshunis it becomes a parajika. Those differences will be stated. That which is called "up to the words related to downfall, it is for the bhikshunis" means: from here onwards, up to the words that appear below, "for those that are lost and not arisen, actions related to downfall are misdeeds," it is for the bhikshunis.
