To firmly spread with Dun (Dūn), to pray, to agree with the actions of both, and to deliver it on that very day. Because the agreed-upon Dharma robe should not be placed on other days. How to deliver it? Therefore, it is said, "After making the request," meaning that the act of delivering is done solely by making the request, and that is the conclusion. The mantra here is: Venerable Sangha, please listen. This Dharma robe has been agreed upon by the Sangha to be used for firm spreading. This Bhikshu named so-and-so has been appointed to firmly spread it. If the time is right for the Sangha and it is permissible, please grant it. In order to gather dwellings in this way, for the Bhikshus to live in peace, and for the offerings of the donors to be fully enjoyed, the Sangha entrusts this Dharma robe to this Bhikshu named so-and-so for firm spreading. The one who firmly spreads, this Bhikshu named so-and-so, will use this Dharma robe to firmly spread for the Sangha in retreat. Wherever it is firmly spread, even old Dharma robes will not be separated, let alone new ones. This is the prayer, it is said. Washing, sewing, and changing the edges, etc., should be done by him beforehand, meaning that if the Dharma robe is something that has not been finished before and needs to be done now, then the one who spreads it should do the washing, etc., beforehand. After completing two or three items, meaning that among those things like washing, etc., after completing two or three tasks, it is necessary to do it beforehand. If sewing something that has already been completed, one should sew two or three stitches oneself, meaning that if that Dharma robe has already been completed, then at that time, the one who firmly spreads it should sew one or two stitches underneath it. The text here is that the Bhikshu who firmly spreads should first do the washing, sewing, and changing the edges, etc., of the Dharma robe that is to be firmly spread. If one finds something that has already been completed, one should sew two or three stitches underneath it, it is said. Receiving and doing oneself

And at those ends, it will be laid out in order. One should generate the thought, "It has been laid out." The term "receiving" refers to first receiving the Dharma garment for laying out the hard cloth from the Sangha. "Doing it oneself" means that if that Dharma garment has not been completed before, then when laying out the hard cloth, one should first wash, sew, and alter the opening oneself. If it has been completed, then when sewing, one should sew two or three stitches oneself. The term "at those ends" refers to the time when the work of laying out the hard cloth is completed. The term "in order" means that at the time of receiving, one should generate the thought, "It will be laid out," because it has not yet begun. At the time of doing it oneself, one should generate the thought, "It is being laid out," because the work of laying out has begun. At those ends, one should generate the thought, "It has been laid out," because it has been completed. The term "if the first is missing, it is not that it will not happen" means that at the time of receiving, if one should generate the thought, "It will be laid out," but if one does not do that and it is missing, even if one does the latter two, it is not that laying out the hard cloth will not happen, but it will happen. The statement, "Venerable ones, I will lay out the hard cloth tomorrow, you should take out your respective Dharma garments," is what is said to the Sangha. Before the sixteenth day of the middle autumn month when the hard cloth will be laid out, on the evening of the fifteenth day of the middle autumn month, the Bhikshu who is laying out the hard cloth should say these words to all the Sangha gathered within the boundary, meaning, take out your respective three Dharma garments, the mantras that were blessed before. The term "the occasion of the assembly should be followed" means that on the morning of the sixteenth, for the sake of laying out the hard cloth, the occasion of the Sangha assembly is arranging seats, striking the Ghaṇṭā, and correctly admonishing with questioning words, etc. Those Bhikshus who are laying out the hard cloth should follow and do it as work. The term "correctly admonishing with questioning words" means that when asking, "Venerable one, why is the Ghaṇṭā being struck?" one should tell the Bhikshus with the words of answering the Bhikshus.
