Should it be said that the summer retreat has been broken? If the attendant wants to think that way and does so, then at dawn it should be said that the summer retreat has been broken. Hesitating will not break the summer retreat means that hesitating, thinking whether I have vowed to stay in retreat or not, will not break the summer retreat. Blessing for the last six days will not break the retreat means that after vowing to stay in retreat, in the last six days of the three months, blessing to go out will not break the retreat, because the time is very short. The scripture here asks: If a monk is going to perform a prohibition after six, five, or one year, and leaves after blessing, should it be said that the summer retreat has been broken? Attendant, it should be said that the summer retreat has been broken. Knowing that the matter has been completed and not returning and staying will break the retreat means that if a monk, after blessing to go outside the boundary for a matter related to the Dharma, when coming out from inside the boundary, finds that the matter has been completed by others, and finds an opportunity not to have to do it himself, and knows that there is nothing to do outside the boundary, and does not return, and greets the dawn outside the boundary, then even if he has been blessed before, his vowed retreat will be broken. Similarly, if a monk, after blessing to go outside the boundary for a matter related to the Dharma for less than seven days, and the matter is completed on that day, but he does not return immediately, but stays outside the boundary until dawn, then even if he has been blessed before, his vowed retreat will be broken. If seven days are blessed, but the matter is completed in one day, and then he stays for two days; if it is completed in two days, and then he stays for three days; if it is completed in three days, and then he stays for four days; if it is completed in four days, and then he stays for five days; if it is completed in five days, and then he stays for six days; if it is completed in six days, and then he stays for seven days, the situation is the same. The scripture here is, if in the middle of a certain place, the matter becomes very casual, then should he leave? The attendant should not do so. If he leaves, he will commit the sin of breaking the summer retreat.

It is said to be transformation. Regarding the statement "The ultimate limit for this is seven days": For this blessing, the ultimate limit in terms of the number of days is indeed seven days. Therefore, one day, two days, three days, four days, five days, and six days can also be blessed. If asked whether the limit is the same for everything, therefore it is said: "The limit for those who have not received permission is the same," meaning that for other cases where permission for forty days has not been obtained, the limit is seven days. Regarding the statement "For others, it is forty days": Different from the case of not having received permission, for those who have received permission to bless for forty days, the limit is forty days. A monk who has received permission to bless for forty days should also, when leaving, within the boundary of the enclosure, bless himself by reciting the blessing mantra in front of the monks before leaving. The blessing mantra is: "Venerable ones, please listen. I, the monk named so-and-so, having pledged to reside in this place with its enclosure for the first three months of the rainy season, I, named so-and-so, am going beyond the forty-day enclosure for the sake of the Sangha's affairs, and from then on, I will return, and I bless myself. I am residing here this rainy season, and my place of rainy season residence is here," repeating this three times. For the later three months of the rainy season, the blessing mantra should be changed to replace "the first three months of the rainy season" with "the later three months of the rainy season." For those who have received permission to bless for forty days, blessing for less than that time is also acceptable. Regarding the statement "That is given": The Sangha should give the permission to bless for forty days to someone, first having them pledge their willingness, and then after declaring it to the Sangha three times themselves, the Sangha should give the permission through a request and two karmas. The blessing mantra is: "Venerable one, having blessed for forty days, are you willing to go outside the enclosure for the sake of the Sangha? Willing." "Venerable ones of the Sangha, please listen. I, the monk named so-and-so, having pledged to reside in this place with its enclosure for the first three months of the rainy season, I am residing here this rainy season, and my
