This is the petition. Venerable Sangha, please listen. The Bhikshu named so-and-so wishes to offer a summer dwelling place to the Sangha. Therefore, if the Sangha appoints so-and-so to offer a dwelling place, those of you who are venerable, if you tolerate the appointment of so-and-so to offer a dwelling place, please do not speak. Those who do not tolerate it, please speak. The Sangha has tolerated and agreed, and the Sangha has appointed the Bhikshu named so-and-so to offer a dwelling place. Thus, because no one speaks, it is accepted as such. If one cannot, then one should not appoint many. If one person cannot offer a summer dwelling place to the Sangha, then one should not appoint many Bhikshus. After the appointment, what should one do? Therefore, one should arrange the wooden sticks, smeared with pure fragrance and wrapped with white cloth, in order of seniority. Venerable ones, here are the rules to be observed. Among you, those who are willing to abide by these rules and dwell here, please take a stick. None of you should create disputes within the Sangha. Among you, if anyone knows a little, please speak. Among you, if anyone will create disputes within the Sangha during the summer retreat, the Sangha should investigate carefully afterwards, this is the admonition to the Bhikshus. The Bhikshu who offers the dwelling place should act accordingly, this is his vow. After that, in order for other Bhikshus to receive and promise, one should petition the Sangha. The other Bhikshus, other than the Bhikshu who offers the dwelling place, in order to receive the sticks of the Sangha and promise to dwell in the summer retreat, should only perform one act of petition, that is, to cover these two matters simultaneously with one act of petition. The mantra for that is: Venerable Sangha, please listen. Today the Sangha will approach the summer retreat, hearing on the fifteenth day of the middle summer month. If the time has come for the Sangha and it tolerates it, please let the Sangha agree.
