That which is called "with a mind free from jealousy and defilement" means that the Dharma should be taught with a mind of loving-kindness, compassion, and freedom from defilement. That which is called "with a mind of compassion" means with the intention of accomplishing benefit first. That which is called "with a mind free from defilement" means not desiring to subsequently obtain gain, respect, honor, or any other action from that or another source. That which is called "with joy, faith, and delight" means that "with joy" is to generate joy in order to dispel the discouragement of the listeners and to teach the Dharma. That which is called "with faith" is to generate faith as an antidote to doubt in the true Dharma and to teach the Dharma. That which is called "with delight" is to generate delight as an antidote to unreasonableness and to teach the Dharma. This is how it is taught: by praising correctly, one should make them rejoice; by teaching the Dharma in accordance with their thoughts, one should make them have faith; by teaching meanings that are endowed with valid cognition, one should make them delight. That which is called "if it is not completed due to the power of meaning, it should be stopped" means that if the continuation of listening to the Dharma is not completed due to the power of meaning, such as inability, it should be stopped, and it should be known that there is no unreasonableness in this. The Dharma should be listened to in this way: just as the Dharma is taught with accompaniment and so forth, so too should the listeners listen to the Dharma with faith, with those qualities previously taught. At the end of listening to the Dharma, one should dedicate and express the merit for the sake of the king, the gods, and the patrons. One should be comfortable when departing. That which is called "one should speak the Dharma with melody" means one should recite and speak the Dharma with a melodious voice. That which is called "one should also grasp the essentials and the core" means to grasp the essentials and the core.

Those two are to be done. When? In the Dharma of the Sutra Pitaka and so on. Here, the so-called "important point" means: this word is unreasonable, because it is flawed by faults such as bad sound. The meaning is also contradictory from beginning to end and contradicts other scriptures, because it is flawed by reasons such as illogicality, and so on. It should be understood that it is like these situations. The so-called "formal form" means: like that, for the important points of the Dharma, completely abandoning the faults of sound and meaning, thereby standardizing, this is the formal form. Here, it is said that when teaching the Dharma, the formal forms as mentioned above are: when a monk teaches the Dharma, he should have followers, be respectful, have reverence, enter the Sangha with humility, and use reasonable and clear words to preach the Dharma. Extract the essence from the Sutra Pitaka, first discuss it, and summarize what is to be said. The Sangha should understand through meaning and words, do not speak in dialect, do not speak in half-dialect, do not speak in one dialect by two people, do not lead the Sangha away. If the Dharma speaker is not present, then the rememberer should remember. If there is no rememberer, then gradually, even reciting a verse is also acceptable, and so on, that is what is said. The elder of the Sangha moves the bamboo sticks threaded on the rope to count the days, which means: the elder of the Sangha should count the days. How to count? It is by moving the bamboo sticks threaded on the rope. Here, the scriptures say that from the basis of discussion, therefore it is allowed to count the days. All of these entered the cold butter, and the Blessed One taught: do not everyone count, but two people should count, namely the elder of the Sangha and the Karmadana. If the elder of the Sangha cannot remember, and the Karmadana cannot remember, the Blessed One taught: fifteen bamboo sticks threaded on the rope should be placed, and then one stick should be taken out of them every day, until the end.
