If it is not to go to a place that has sojong and karma, then one should not go at that time; if it is indeed to go to a place that has such a form, then there is no fault in going. Furthermore, if it is not to go to separate from those who are contentious, that is, if it is not to go to separate from those who are by nature contentious in that place, then one should not go at that time; if it is indeed to go to separate from those who are contentious, then there is no fault in going. Furthermore, if it is not to go to meet those who are of good conduct, that is, if going to another place would result in meeting monks who practice purely like Brahma, who are of good conduct and rich in qualities, if it is not to go in such a way, then one should not go at that time; if it is indeed to go to meet those who are of good conduct, then there is no fault in going. This is what was taught: From any place where one's own sojong and karma, or anything else, exists, one should not go to another place on the day of sojong and karma without having performed the sojong and karma. If, on the very day of sojong and karma, one goes to another place that has such a form of one's own sojong and karma, then there is no fault at that time. Or, if one sees that one is separated from those contentious people dwelling in that place, then there is no fault in going at that time. Or, if one goes with the intention of meeting monks who are of good conduct, completely pure, and of the same view, even if one goes to a place without one's own sojong and karma, there is no fault at that time. For, like this, the discipline of sojong, dwelling in good conduct with a solitary, utterly peaceful mind, and how it is completely pure, just as reciting the Pratimoksha Sutra and performing karma separately, the discipline of sojong dwelling together with the speech of contentious people will not become pure. Here, the text refers to a place with monks, and from a non-place, wherever monks dwell who are completely pure in discipline and of the same view, one should go to a place with monks, so it is said.

Here, what is meant by "a place with monks"? It is where the monks reside. Wherever the Uposatha is held, and all affairs are carried out, that is called a place where the monks reside, because it completely accomplishes the affairs of the place. What is meant by "not a place"? It refers to a place where no work is done, because it lacks all the functions of a place. Therefore, even from a non-place, one should not go to a place with monks where there are quarrelsome monks. For this reason, it is said in the sutra that the Uposatha and Pravāraṇā should be suspended. Because going there is prohibited, it is said that one should not go from a place with monks who have good conduct to a place with monks who are quarrelsome. Since one should not go from a place with monks who have good conduct, or even from a non-place, to a place with monks who are quarrelsome, why even mention not going from a non-place? This is to show this reason. To summarize and explain other faults of not going without monks, it is said that one should not go from a place with monks without monks, not together with the others, or unless there is harm or a need for extreme pliancy of body and mind. That is, one should go from a place with monks without monks. If asked: Should one also not go together with the monks residing in a place with monks? Therefore, it is said, one should not go together with the others, that is, one should go together with the others. If asked: Should one not go together with the others in any case? Therefore, it is said, one should not go unless there is harm, that is, one should go because of obstacles to discipline and life, etc. If asked: Should one not go even out of necessity? Therefore, it is said, one should not go unless there is a need for extreme pliancy of body and mind. That is, if going there will cause extreme pliancy of body and mind to arise, and the body and mind will be capable and suitable for virtuous deeds, and will become unwavering, then because of this necessity, the monk

From a place with... to a place without monks, it should be done this way. Like this, through pure Uposatha and Karma, this will cause the nourishment of discipline to grow even more. Therefore, in order to generate extreme taming of body and mind, it is only reasonable to postpone the blessing of pure Uposatha and Karma. Staying for the purpose of going, one should not abandon the Uposatha and Karma that has not been done, which refers to being connected to "on that day." Wherever the abbot and others reside, in order for oneself to go elsewhere, one should not abandon and discard the Uposatha and Karma that the student's residence has not done, this is its essence. If such a cause arises, one should indicate the place with good conduct and with harm, and then let him go there. It means that if one does not stay in that place, there will be causes of obstacles such as discipline and life. On that day, for the resident, one should indicate where there are monks with good conduct and with reciting the Pratimoksha Sutra, tell him "go to such and such place," let him go there, and oneself should also go on that day. The scripture here says that there is a Sangha of monks there, with a steward, with Pratimoksha, and monks who have discipline, have virtues, and are definitely of good Dharma are dwelling. They will not generate unarisen regret, and what has arisen will be eliminated. The words Pratimoksha and so on, refer to the steward of the Sangha having recitation, clearly indicating. The words having discipline and so on, refer to having good conduct. That admonition
