That which should be relied upon, and the act of relying, is said to be when the two senses are covered by such a obscuration, and the sensation of touch is experienced by inserting the upper part, that is a defeat. If so, then how should that which cannot be touched be established? Therefore, it is said that "being covered by another is explained as entering without touching." That is to say, unlike the obscuration mentioned in the previous sutra, being covered by skin or a thick, soft obscuration, for all those obscured things, it is not possible to touch, and that is explained as entering without touching, that is, becoming coarse. This is the explanation of the first defeat. Thus, the explanation of the defeat of non-brahmacharya ends. Now, let us speak of those things that arise from the Vinaya in the context of non-brahmacharya. If one does not know the nature of a bhikshu, then one is naturally lost. That is to say, if one does not think of oneself as a bhikshu, and does not know one's own nature as a bhikshu, then that ignorance is darkness, and it should be known that this is natural loss. In such a case, whatever offense is committed is acceptable. Here, in the Vinaya, the term "natural loss" and the terms for madness and so on, their definitions are like this. Therefore, here the text is that if one knows the nature of a bhikshu, then one will fall as it is. If, as mentioned before, one does not know the nature of a bhikshu, then one will not fall, and the same is true for mental confusion and being afflicted by feelings. In order to distinguish the rough description of loss, it is said that "loss itself is of two kinds, namely internal and external." Among the two kinds of loss, the loss itself that belongs to the internal order is the most important, therefore starting from the internal order, up to the external loss, that is the external loss itself here. Merely external loss is not loss itself. When one promises another for the sake of reliance, the precepts become confused. That is to say, if any bhikshuni says "that is acceptable" in order to have another teach her, that is promising another.

Therefore, the basis of the precepts of that female student of the bhikṣuṇī is completely without being disturbed, this is the concluding word. Here, the precepts of the female student of the bhikṣuṇī are indeed disturbed, but in the precepts of the śrāmaṇerikā, the avoidance of touching a male is not a disturbance, because she has not experienced it in the situation where the sinful ones of the monastery copulate together. If she were to experience it at that time, then at that time she would commit a misdeed similar to falling into defeat, therefore, her body would no longer have the nature of birth. Therefore, it is only at the time of promising that her precepts are disturbed, but not at the time of practicing, because she is not pleased. Here, the situation is that the sinful one of the monastery asks the female student of the bhikṣuṇī: You have not yet taken full ordination, even if you engage in impure conduct, you will not fall into transgression. She followed him, and regretted it. She practiced it unwillingly, and regretted whether she had become unsuitable to be a female student of the bhikṣuṇī. The Blessed One said: The precepts have been disturbed and must be taken again. She will fall into the transgression of misdeed. That misdeed also occurred only at the time of promising. Therefore, it is said that it should also be given away. The disturbance itself, that is, the precepts of the female student of the bhikṣuṇī, should also be given away. While promising to rely on it, it is said that it is a sthūlātyaya of the bhikṣu. That is, promising to another for the sake of relying on it. That is a sthūlātyaya, a serious offense, of the bhikṣu. From here onwards, up to the sutra below saying "if one advises another for the sake of relying on it," it should be regarded as within the scope of sthūlātyaya. Here again, the situation is that the sinful one of the monastery asks the underage one: You have not been fully ordained for a long time, even if you engage in impure conduct, you will not fall into transgression. She followed him, and regretted it. She practiced it unwillingly, and regretted whether she had fallen into defeat. The Blessed One said: She will not fall into defeat, but will commit a sthūlātyaya. This also only results in transgression at the time of promising.
