Therefore. We monks have this Dharma gift, and it should be declared to them. All those who possess them should each examine their retinue. This means that all the monks who possess that retinue should each examine their own retinue, and it is not only the elders of the Sangha who should do it. To cut off meaningless conduct means that doing what is unnecessary is meaningless conduct. In any case, one should not waste time with meaningless things, and should cut them off in this way. The conduct of those, etc., should be as it is. Among them, "those" refers to the retinue. "Conduct, etc." includes: one should walk like this, one should stay like this, one should lie down like this, and so on. In short, the retinue should act as it is. "That" refers to the retinue. "As it is" means that it should be in accordance with the retinue. This is to teach that a monk who possesses a retinue should make his conduct, etc., in accordance with his own retinue, and one who possesses a retinue should make the conduct, etc., of his retinue as it is for his retinue. "Not contradicting various talks" means that "various talks" refers to various scattered talks. "Contradictory talks" refers to those that contradict the Dharma and the Vinaya. Whoever possesses a retinue, if there are no various talks and contradictory talks, then he is not contradicting various talks. One who possesses a retinue should make that retinue possess such distinctions. Because it is the occasion of dwelling and dwelling, in the convenience of that, it is said: a follower should not go before the former. A follower should not go before the dwelling place. "Should not sit" means that one should not sit or stand on it. If one speaks, one should speak and accomplish. "If one speaks, one should speak" means that if an elder monk speaks and says, then the follower monk should speak. Before the elder speaks, the younger should not speak even a little.

It is the act of. The so-called "should be accomplished" means that, or, the following disciple should accomplish everything that the virtuous knowledge master says without saying anything. In the so-called "not interrupting speech," "interruption of speech" means cutting off the gap between speeches. When the virtuous knowledge master speaks, the following disciple should not interrupt the speech. The so-called "if you speak illegally, you should stop it" means that if the virtuous knowledge master speaks illegally and unreasonably, the following disciple should stop it and refute it. The so-called "rejoicing in the Dharma" means that when the virtuous knowledge master and others speak the Dharma, the following disciples and others should rejoice, that is, say "good" as a praise. If a gain corresponding to the Dharma arises, the so-called "should be accepted" means that if the virtuous knowledge master arises with a gain corresponding to the Dharma, the following disciple should accept it, because it is illegal for the virtuous knowledge master to accept it himself. This is the precept of the following disciple. From now on, it should be known that it is a branch of the foundation of ordination, arising from trivial matters and other occasions. Among them, briefly explain the precepts of going to the secular home. The so-called "should not be rude, should not be arrogant, should not stay" means that when a bhikkhu goes to a secular home, he should not be rude, should not be arrogant, that is, should not be rude, and the so-called "should not stay" means that when a bhikkhu goes to a secular home, he should not stay in the secular home, he should want to go out from the secular home, and should not have the idea of living there for a long time. In the so-called "looking down and speaking Dharma words to the lay people," what is looking down? Looking down means withdrawing one's eyes from all realms. Because distracted viewing is illegal. The so-called "speaking Dharma words" means that when arriving at a secular home, one should speak Dharma words to the lay people. What should be done and how should it be done? Therefore, giving, taming, protecting as it should be, abiding in pure conduct, fasting and refuge.

Going to where, and grasping the basis of learning, these must be imparted to me, thus it is said. A monk going to a layperson's home, must ensure that those laypeople are connected with offerings and the like. What is called giving is what is given by and what should be given. What is called taming is taming the senses. What is called truly restraining is the true restraint of body and speech. What is called abiding in pure conduct is the discipline of renunciation, and even for a householder, until the end of life, also retreating from the ways of the village. All actions that become the door to downfall should be accomplished with mindfulness, so it is said. It should be connected with accomplishing all actions with mindfulness. What kind of distinction is there? It is for what has become the door to downfall. Whatever action is started, if there is a possibility of downfall arising from it, that is what has become the door to downfall. Entering a householder's home, begging for alms, and so on, and walking, entering, and holding a begging bowl, and so on, all actions should be accomplished with mindfulness. A monk, with mindfulness manifest, should engage in those actions, that is the meaning. Thus it is taught: If a monk wants to start an action, for the place of downfall where starting an action may lead to downfall, that monk must from the very beginning abide in mindfulness so that no downfall occurs. It is not to accomplish with mindfulness for the sake of definitely grasping the nature of things themselves. A follower should not do what is not to be done by what has been learned, it should be connected with "accomplishing". A follower is a follower, following. If the one being followed teaches, then he is the one being taught, therefore the follower should not act contrary to his teachings. Thus it is taught: Whoever follows whomever, if he makes him learn, then the follower should accept his teachings, this is the concluding word. To the one who comes, one should first pleasantly say, "Welcome, you have come well."
