For situations that haven't occurred, monks should not delay too long but should go and reside immediately. Regarding the phrase "near the village," the word "near" means close by. For elders residing near the village, monks should also go and reside. If, when entering the village, the elder comes afterward, then the monks, seeing the elder coming, should wait. If someone comes to invite, they should also tell them to wait for the elder to arrive. That is, when the monks are residing in this way, if someone comes from the village to invite, then the monks should tell the inviter: Please wait a moment, wait for the elder to arrive. If entering the village for food, when taking water to wash hands, if time permits, they should also wait. That is, the monks, having entered the village for food and drink, when taking water to wash their hands, if the monks have time to wait for the elder and can shield themselves from the sun with an umbrella, then they should tell the attendant: Please wait a moment, wait for the elder to arrive. If there is no time, they should leave a place for him on the seat. That is, if the sun has reached its zenith and there is no time to wait, they should leave a place for the elder in front of the seat. Having spoken about the situation of residing, now the discipline of the elder should be discussed, and one should separately observe the place of residence and the outside. That is, the elder should observe whether the monks residing inside the house and all the places outside, whether some have not sewn well or have not studied well. If, after observing separately, what should be done? Therefore, it is said that if they have not sewn well or have not studied well, for the sake of beauty, these two should be reproached. Not sewing well refers to the upper robe. Not studying wellིད་ཅེས་བྱ་བ་ནི། means: the lower garment. མཛེས་པར་བྱ་བའི་ཕྱིར་ཞེས་བྱ་བ་ནི means: for the sake of beauty. དེ་གཉིས་ལ་ཞེས་བྱ་བ་ནི means: for those two, namely, those who have not properly tamed themselves and those who have not properly studied. བརྡ་བྱའོ་ཞེས་བྱ་བ་ནི means: should be indicated, that is, for those two monks who have not properly tamed themselves and have not properly studied, gestures and so on should be made. གལ་ཏེ་བརྡ་བྱས་ཀྱང་མགོ་ན་དེའི་ཚེ་ཇི་ལྟར་བྱ་ཞེ་ན means: if it is indicated, but they do not listen, what should be done at that time? དེའི་ཕྱིར་མ་གོན་དྲུང་ན་མོ་བྱེད་དུ་གཞུག་གོ་ཞེས་བྱ་བ་སྨྲས་ཏེ thus it is said. མགོ་ན་ཞེས་བྱ་བ་ནི means: if they do not listen, that is, if the abbot of the Sangha indicates to the monk who has not properly studied, if they do not listen, at that time, in front of the monk who has not properly tamed himself, etc., a monk who knows the rules should be arranged to indicate. མ་གྱུར་ན་རང་གིས་སོ་ཞེས་བྱ་བ་ནི means: if it does not change, then do it yourself, that is, if the monk in front who knows the rules indicates, but it still does not become beautiful, then the abbot of the Sangha himself should make it beautiful. གསར་བུ་དེ་དག་ལ་ཀུན་དུ་སྨྲ་བར་མི་བྱའོ་ཞེས་བྱ་བ་ནི means: do not talk too much to those new monks, that is, for those new monks, the abbot of the Sangha should not talk too much, do not talk idle talk with them, this is a summary statement. གཙུག་ལག་ཁང་དང་དགོན་པ་དེར་དེ་དག་གི་ཚུལ་ཁྲིམས་ཀྱི་ཚུལ་ཁྲིམས་དེ་འཛིན་དུ་གཞུག་པར་བྱ་ཞིང་ངེས་པར་སྦྱར་བར་ཡང་ངོ་ཞེས་བྱ་བ་ནི means: in the temple and monastery, they should be made to uphold those precepts of discipline, and they must be combined, that is, in the place of the temple and monastery, the precepts that those new monks enter and abide by, the precepts of the temple and monastery, behavior, etc., should be made to uphold, let the new monks understand, and they must be combined, combined from "precepts". འདི་སྐད་བསྟན་ཏེ thus it is shown. ཚུལ་ཁྲིམས་དེ་འཛིན་དུ་གཞུག་པ་འབའ་ཞིག་ཏུ་མ་ཟད་ཀྱི་དགེ་འདུན་གྱི་གནས་བརྟན་གྱིས་གསར་བུ་རྣམས་ཚུལ་ཁྲིམས་དེ་ལ་ནན་ཏན་བྱ་བ་ལ་ངེས་པར་སྦྱར་བར་ཡང་བྱ་བའོ not only should they be made to uphold the precepts, but the abbot of the Sangha should also make the new monks strive to uphold the precepts. གློ་བུར་དུ་འོངས་པས་ན་སོ་སོར་བརྟགས་ནས་གནས་མལ་གྱི་ཕྱིར་གཉུག་མར་གནས་པ་རྣམས་ལ་བརྗོད་པར་བྱའོ་ཞེས་བྱ་བ་ནི means: because they have come suddenly, they should be counted separately, and for the sake of lodging, they should be told to the permanent residents, that is, those who have come suddenly, among those who have come suddenly, the abbot who is the abbot of the Sangha, for himself and those who have come suddenly with him, should be counted separately, and in order to obtain lodging, they should be compared to the monks.

It should be spoken to those who remain in their usual place. Those who are about to depart should examine the direction, the path, the dwelling, and the lodging, as well as friends, examining the non-abandonment of the sick, and then depart. This means that among the monks who are about to depart, whichever elder is about to depart, that elder who is about to depart should examine the direction, etc., and then depart. The elder who is about to depart should examine in which direction to travel, which path to take, from which path to depart, what kind of dwelling is desired, such as temples, and what the lodgings of those who have arrived there are. All of these should be fully understood, examining friends, examining that no one will abandon them if they become ill. Considering this, in order to reach the place that is thought of, one should depart, otherwise one will not reach it. This is the meaning of the sutra. Before too long, at the end of everything, whether a small amount of something belonging to someone has been left behind, one should immediately remember. This means that the elder of the Sangha who is about to depart should immediately remember those monks who are about to depart. How should one remember? It is said, "Before too long," etc. The meaning is, do not go too far away from that place. "At the end of everything" means that after all the activities, starting with the departure, have been completed, after leaving the dwelling. "Someone's" means belonging to a certain monk. "Small amount" means an object. "Whether it has been left behind" means whether it has been forgotten. "One should immediately remember" means one should ask immediately. One should praise the new ones for not being rude and not being arrogant. Rudeness is non-peacefulness, arrogance is being haughty. The elder who is about to depart should transform the new ones from those aspects, and should praise peacefulness, non-pride, and the certain subduing of conceit. When approaching the outside of the village, everyone should... When approaching the outside of the village means when arriving at the village. Everyone means not only the elder who is about to depart, but all the other elders as well should... Everything means only the new ones...
