Etc., one should abide in whatever activity there is and diligently perform it. "One should prepare the bed and cushion" means: the one abiding should prepare the bed and cushion of the dwelling. "One should remove the cloth of the lower garment" means: one should remove and put on the cloth of the lower garment, that is, the night clothes. "One should take off the lower garment" means: the lower garment of the dwelling should be replaced with the cloth of the lower garment, because it is torn, so it should be taken off and placed. "One should pour out the foot water, footrest, and copper basin" means: in the word "of the foot," both water and cushion should be connected separately, that is, pouring out the foot water etc. means: pouring out the foot washing water, footrest, and copper basin, this is the summary word. "One should wipe the two shoes" means: one should wipe the two shoes of the dwelling, meaning the one abiding should put them in, this is the summary word. If one sees someone who has not been appointed as a practitioner holding a broom, one should reduce the work, meaning: for someone who has not been appointed as a practitioner, the reason for saying this is that if they were appointed, it would be their own work, so it is said that they have not been appointed. Brooms etc. are dwellings that have not been appointed as practitioners. Whoever is holding a broom, that is the one holding the broom, if one sees the dwelling of someone who has not been appointed holding a broom, one should reduce the work, meaning: picking it up oneself etc., reducing the work of that dwelling, this is the summary word. If one sees someone who has not been appointed as a tailor holding a needle, it is the same, meaning: for someone who has not been appointed as a tailor, if they were appointed, it would be their own work, so it is said that they have not been appointed. Whoever is holding a needle, that is the one holding the needle, that is, the dwelling. "It is the same" means it is connected to "seeing and reducing work." What is shown here is: if that dwelling has not been appointed as a tailor, then at that time, if the one abiding sees someone in the dwelling holding a needle, one should reduce the work, this is the summary word. Things that are allowed to be done and cutting small grass, as well as picking flowers and picking fruits, and preparing toothpicks etc., should also be entrusted to the novice monk, meaning: things that are allowed to be done are fruits etc. Cutting small grass is for stupas etc. Picking flowers and picking fruits, and preparing toothpicks

Offering practice and so on, whatever those are, are those and so on. Suitable things to do and so on, for the sake of those dwellings, appointing novices and having them do, know that living in the dwelling requires extra effort. Therefore, with the word "also," living in the dwelling, for all the things previously shown and for the things that are only the dwelling, not only for the Sangha, but also have them appoint novices and have them do all those things. Knocking on the door means understanding it as living inside, that is, a bhikkhu living outside wants to come inside, knocking on the door with his hand, etc., the bhikkhu lives inside the dwelling, which means understanding it as living inside. Know that this ritual is not only for the dwelling, but should be applied to all situations. Regarding "be slow and not too long," knocking on the door should be slow, this is to avoid unpleasant sounds. Not too long means do not knock on the door for a long time. Regarding "do not push it open violently," "that" here refers to the door. Do not push it open violently means do not push it open violently. Regarding "enter and exit slowly and consciously, do not drag the threshold," slowly means not too fast. Consciously means that the mind is not distracted, that is, to be mindful. Entering refers to dwellings and so on. Exiting refers to being the same outside. Do not drag the threshold means that in any case, avoid touching those two things. This is to avoid the clothes becoming unsuitable and to make an effort to avoid it. Regarding "respect it," it refers to respecting that dwelling. Because knocking on the door and other things will interrupt the power of living in the dwelling, "that" is said to emphasize that dwelling. Regarding "get close," it means that the person living in the dwelling should get close to that dwelling, that is, sit not far away. Regarding "do not get close to someone you have a dispute with," it refers to a person who has a dispute with the dwelling.
