Having explained the iron patch, if one asks how to make an earthen patch, therefore it is said, 'Earthen is with jaggery and clay,' meaning that one should know that an earthen bowl is patched by mixing jaggery and clay. That patching should also be done as before, with oil and rubbing, until it becomes like beeswax, patching it with heat, covering it with straw, plastering it with clay, heating it to a suitable temperature, and then rubbing it with oil, all those things previously taught should also be applied here. Having explained patching, in order to explain burning, it is said, 'If it is in use, then it should be burned after six months,' meaning that if the bowl is in use, then it should be burned after six months, because it is fit to be burned. Thus it is taught: If, like a single day, the bowl is used for the activity of fixed food, then at that time that bowl will become fit to be burned at the end of six months, so it should be burned at that time. In order to explain the time for burning an earthen bowl, it is said, 'If it is earthen, then half a month,' meaning that if an earthen bowl is continuously in use, then it will become fit to be burned at the end of half a month, so it should be burned at that time. If the bowl is also fit to be burned and summer is also near, then how should it be used at that time? Moreover, it occurs multiple times like a single day, and the interval between those multiple times is the time devoid of holding the begging bowl. That is, after eating, until going for alms the next day. There, after doing things like taking alms and eating, one should apply oil and the like, and set it aside. Also, when going for alms the next day, one should scrub it with rough, dry cloths and the like. After that, after doing the food-related activities again, until the time for going for alms the next day, one should apply oil and the like and set it aside. The application of oil and rough scrubbing are precisely the application of oil and rough scrubbing. Through the application of oil and rough scrubbing, one should properly repair it in between the functions of that begging bowl, it should be understood in this way. "It should be burned" refers to that begging bowl. In order to explain the method of burning the begging bowl, it is said, "For that purpose, a pottery kiln should be fired." For burning the begging bowl, a pottery kiln should be made. What kind of kiln is it? Therefore, it is said, "For that, it should be made of the same material, or a mold is also acceptable." The meaning of "made of the same material" is that the material of that pottery kiln is the same as that (of the begging bowl). Becoming only that material is what is meant by "made of the same material," that is, made in the shape of a pottery kiln. Is it only done with that? No, therefore it is said, "a mold is also acceptable," it should be connected with "fired." In order to explain that it is acceptable to make a pottery kiln with a mold, it is said, "Fill it with ashes and carve it with a potter's chisel, it will be good." The meaning is, let the mold be filled with ashes, and after filling it, use a potter's chisel, that is, something like an iron pestle, to carve the mold, it will be good, that is the final meaning. If one asks where to find the potter's chisel, therefore it is said, "It should be held," referring to that potter's chisel. If one asks how to make the pottery kiln, therefore it is said, "With it, cover it without letting smoke escape," meaning, cover the begging bowl with that pottery kiln. If one asks how to cover it, therefore it is said, "without letting smoke escape," meaning, if smoke comes out from there
