Therefore, the word "friends" was spoken. Because of what kind of friends? The word "bhikshus and shramaneras" was spoken. If it is one thing, then starting from the elders, cover it until it reaches the place, which refers to: if there is only one garment that is considered inferior, it should be covered starting from the elders until it reaches and covers the place. Here, the scripture is: The Blessed One said, "Whoever obtains it should be distributed by whoever obtains it, it should not be done like this, it should be distributed in common." If there is only one, then how should it be covered starting from the elders until it reaches the place? That's what was said. If it is not designated, it should not be worn from others and then broken, which refers to: not designated, refers to: not designated to be given to so-and-so, but generally given as inferior. Then take it from others, wear it yourself, and then go to break it, this should not be done. If a benefactor who wants merit invites you as a guest, on the uncut cloth, because of the danger of impermanence, you should trample on it with mindfulness, which refers to: a benefactor who wants merit invites a bhikshu as a guest, and if they say, "Please trample on the uncut cloth." At that time, that bhikshu should think that this garment is in danger of impermanence, and then trample on it with both feet. Here, the scriptures of the two sutras are: Also, the Blessed One said, "Whoever wants to break it should wear that person's garment to break it. If others break it, they will commit a serious offense." Also, the Blessed One said, "If a bhikshu is walking on the road, and Brahmins and faithful householders cover him with uncut long cloths and say, 'For our benefit, please trample on it.' In order to overwhelm the heretics, one should think that there is a danger of impermanence, and then trample on it, You should not regret this." Wearing uncut clothes will lead to a downfall, this has already been said. What will turn into a downfall of enjoyment? Therefore, jewels that are not one's own, there...

Touching or allowing to be touched is also the same. Having said, "It is the doer." If asked, who is the doer of this offense? Therefore, it is said, "Not one's own jewel." It is another's jewel. Because it is shown that one's own (jewel) is a downfall to be abandoned. What is called "mentioned there" refers to the mention of a jewel. The sound "there" refers to the jewel. The sound "not one's own" should not be connected here, mentioning a jewel, whether it is one's own or not one's own, they are the doers of this offense. If one does something, how are they the doers of this offense? Therefore, it is said, "Touching or allowing to be touched is the doer." For a jewel that is not one's own and a jewel that is mentioned, if one touches it oneself or allows another to touch it, one is the doer of this offense. Taking possession of a mentioned jewel is a misdeed, enjoying it is using it, and merely taking possession of it has little element of enjoyment. If asked, what is a mentioned jewel? Therefore, it is said, "It is a weapon used in war and a musical instrument used in music." A weapon needed for war and related to war is a weapon used in war. A musical instrument needed for music and related to music is a musical instrument used in music. If asked, of what kind of offense are those two the doers? Therefore, it is said, "Becoming suitable because of need is the main act." A weapon that has become suitable because it is needed for war, and a musical instrument that has become suitable because it is needed for music, if the weapon and instrument are needed for war and music, then it is the offense of the main act.

said, if these two reside in any dwelling, are they residents? No. Therefore, except for residing in the temple and its surroundings, touching or allowing to touch things related to the temple or residing in its surroundings, is not done by these two, no matter what the intention? No. Therefore, unless it is with the intention of not wasting things, and not for possession. That is to say, if a monk has no possessive desire for what he possesses, and has the idea of not wasting things, then he can touch or allow to touch with his hands the weapons and tools in the temple and its surroundings. Therefore, for complete protection, there is no fault in touching or allowing to touch. In order to show the ritual of complete protection, it is said: Do not discard it. That is, do not discard the jewels or what are considered jewels that are in the temple or around the temple. If it is lost from the owner, effort should be made to protect it. How can it not be discarded? Therefore, it is said: It should be collected for seven or eight days. That is to say, the monk should collect from time to time for seven or eight days the jewels or what are considered jewels that have been lost from the owner, which are in the temple or around the temple. It is said: It should be covered with soil or leaves on the path of travel. That is to say, the jewels or what are considered jewels that have been lost from the owner, which are around the temple, should be covered with soil, leaves, or petals on the side of the road that the monk walks for the purpose of begging for alms, etc. It is said: If the owner does not provide all the signs, do not give it to the one who claims to be him. That is to say, if someone who claims to be the owner does not say all the words about the signs and ownership of the thing, but only vaguely says that it is mine, do not give it to him casually. If he does not come, then afterwards it should be put into the Sangha's treasury.
