To which category of offenses does it belong? The distinction here is that there is no offense for cutting down trees and pounding the ground, etc., when necessary. Even so, the source here is the statement by the Saris Sangha that "the firewood for heating is exhausted." The offense of pounding has been explained. How does one become an offense of intimidation? Therefore, it is said, "Intimidating to strike." Here too, with a mind of annoyance, threatening another bhikshu's body or what he has thrown or anything related to it, even a toe or mustard seed or grass, etc., all the texts previously relied upon should be applied as appropriate. Thus, the meaning of the words here is: with a mind of annoyance, threatening to strike a bhikshu's body, etc., anything at all, even a toe, etc., then this offense will be committed. If there are many things, will only one offense be committed? Therefore, it is said, "For each thing." As many things as are intimidated, such as fingers, that many offenses will be committed. For the action, that many misdeeds will be committed. The offense of intimidation has been explained. How does one become an offense of concealing a transgression? Therefore, it is said, "Concealing defeat and sanghavasesa." If a bhikshu knowingly conceals the offense of another bhikshu's defeat and sanghavasesa, he commits an offense. Is this the case for all concealment? Therefore, it is said, "Except for concealing what is uncomfortable, an obstacle to a bhikshu's discipline and pure conduct, and fear of division in the sangha." The word "fear" should be applied to all things such as discomfort. The word "obstacle" should be applied to both a bhikshu's discipline and pure conduct. Thus, the meaning of the words here is: fear of discomfort, and fear of an obstacle to a bhikshu's discipline, and fear of an obstacle to pure conduct, and fear of division in the sangha.

Besides oneself being defeated by others, and concealing a Sanghavasesa offense, one commits a Patayantika offense. The conduct of a Bhikshu, one should know that this is the Noble Path. Other differences are that, possessing full ordination, having the same name, having the same view, and residing within the boundary, if one conceals it at the juncture of day and night, it is a fundamental offense, etc., which should be understood specifically from the basis of a person. When does one conceal it? Therefore, it is said, at the juncture of day and night. Until dawn is a synonym. Before that, one commits a Dukkata offense, that is, before the juncture of day and night, one commits a Dukkata offense. Other Patayantika offenses refer to Patayantika offenses other than being defeated and Sanghavasesa offenses, even at the juncture of day and night one commits a Dukkata offense, and before that one also commits a Dukkata offense. The Patayantika offense of concealing an evil offense has been explained. What leads to the Patayantika offense of causing the cutting off of alms? Therefore, it is said, except for the purpose of treating illness, intentionally thinking to cause the almsgiver to cut off alms at the house of a householder, one commits a Patayantika offense. If the almsgiver who provides food is a householder, then that is the food of the householder almsgiver. Except for the purpose of treating illness, if a Bhikshu intentionally thinks to cause the almsgiver of another Bhikshu to cut off alms at the house of a householder, one commits a Patayantika offense. If one instructs with words to cut off alms, one commits a Patayantika offense. If one causes the cutting off of alms through letters, written documents, arithmetic, dispatch, transmission, or indirect means, one commits a Dukkata offense. Here, some scriptures say that if one causes the cutting off of alms at the house of non-Buddhists, one commits a Dukkata offense. The Patayantika offense of causing the cutting off of alms has been explained. Desiring to speak of the Patayantika offense of touching fire, in order to prohibit touching things similar to it, therefore it is said, do not touch a lion. Because a lion is like fire, difficult to approach and endure. Having first done the blessing of time, and then saying that one may touch fire, therefore, one must first show the manner of the blessing of time.
