If a monk watches an army out of desire, there is no offense at that time. If a monk does something, what would cause an offense here? Therefore, it is said, "Seeing beyond the boundary of the sacred place." From wherever one goes beyond the boundary of the sacred place, the monk who sees will commit this offense. The boundary of the monastic robe, which was mentioned before, should also be understood as the boundary here. If a monk goes to see a herd of elephants, it is a minor offense until the eyes see it. If the eyes see it, then it is a major offense. Here, merely seeing is considered the fundamental offense. If a monk does not go beyond the boundary and only turns his face to look, it is said to be a minor offense. The offense of watching an army has been explained. Chapter Thirty-One. If one does something, what would cause dwelling in an army to become an offense? Therefore, it is said, "Without those, staying there for more than two days and nights." If there is no invitation or fear from the king, etc., for a monk who enjoys warfare, staying there for more than two days and nights will cause this offense. In the Vinaya, the moment at the end of a day and night seems to be regarded as a term, therefore, the moment at the end of two days and nights, that is, when the first light of the third day rises, it will become a fundamental offense, and before that, it is a preparatory offense. From then on, each day will become a fundamental offense, and before that, it is a preparatory offense. If there is no need, it is also the same for the previous one, meaning that if there is no need according to reason, then in the moment at the end of staying for two days before staying for the third day, each day will become a fundamental offense, and before that, it is a preparatory offense. If one stays without need, only a minor offense will be committed, which is evident from the prohibition of seeing. Therefore, if one enters an army without need, even if it is known as the nature of virtue, it will be damaged.

One should not go. The offense of dwelling in the army has been explained. Now, intending to speak of the offense of experiencing the limbs of the army, it is said that the limbs of the army are the very agents. The limbs of the army that delight in battle, such as elephants, horses, chariots, and infantry, are the very agents. If one asks, are all monks the very agents? Therefore, it is said, "Because of the power of obstruction, not going." Because of the power of obstruction, not going, this fault does not occur here. If there is an obstruction, there is no offense, for it is said that if any of the eight obstructions are present, there is no fault. This is just an example; for the purpose of quickly pacifying harm, there is no offense for all who go. "Collected and separate" means that the collected or separate limbs of the army are the very agents. "Collected" means that the best of banners or the best of armies is collected. Here, the best of armies should be understood as the fourfold collection of the army. "Separate" means that looking at the deployed and arranged army is collected. The words "arranged" and "deployed" are synonymous terms and should be understood as having the same meaning. For example, if one experiences the deployment of war, this is what is shown; the experience of looking at the arrangement is its explanation. The deployment of war has four modes: like the opening of grain, like the shape of a chariot, like the shape of a crescent moon, and like the wings of a garuda. Arrangement also has four modes: like the opening of grain, like the shape of a chariot, like the shape of a crescent moon, and like the wings of a garuda. Among these, "like the opening of grain" means that the front and back are reinforced with troops, and the king sits in the middle. "Like the shape of a chariot" means that the front is reinforced with troops, the sides are also reinforced with troops, and the king sits in the back. "Like the shape of a crescent moon" means that the front is reinforced with troops, and the back
