Covering should be allowed. Those should be used and held by the monks very carefully and cleanly, and should be held and distributed with suitable hands and suitable cloths, and should also be given to all the Brahmins and patrons who come. The monks should examine the water very carefully, and should drink water that is completely clear, without turbidity, without mixing, clean, and pure, it is said. Regarding "water vessels should be used from time to time" means: water vessels should be washed and purified from time to time. It should be understood by the very teaching that "external purification is making a clean sound." Regarding "for the deep ones, with a brush of shell ash or a cup of leaves, or with cloth tied to the top of a wooden stick" means: for water vessels that are deep and the hand cannot reach the bottom, a brush of shell ash should be used, or a cup of leaves tied to the top of a wooden stick, that is, a tight brush made of leaves or a collection of leaves, tied to the top of a wooden stick, or wiping and washing with a rolled cloth tied to the top of a wooden stick. Regarding "one should not fail to protect the dirt of food" means: from things like brushes of shell ash, one should not fail to protect the so-called dirt of food, that is, things that are stained with food residue and become messy, one should protect them. It is said that one should wipe with things like brushes of shell ash that are free from mess. Regarding "should be dried" means: the washed water vessels should also be dried. Regarding "in order not to become rushed at that time, one should not do it immediately" means: when doing the washing and drying, it is not allowed to become rushed because of using the vessels, in order not to become rushed, one should not do it immediately, all at once, but should gradually wash and dry, meaning that one should not wash and dry all the vessels at the same time. Regarding "work related to water should be done by those who stay" means: the work related to water as shown before and other things should be done by those who stay, that is, the disciples and attendants. The scripture here is...

When the Venerable One said, "Water should be taken," the monks did not know who should take it. The Blessed One instructed, "It should be taken by those who dwell there." Belonging to the scope of what kind of water, and water filters and the like, are works related to water. The occasion of dealing with water containing living beings and minor matters related to it is thus concluded. The offense of falling by using water containing living beings has been explained. Desiring to speak of the offense of dwelling in a house prepared for sexual activity, he spoke of "knowing as the chief." Here also, the name "knowing as the chief" should be connected with the name "one who makes consciousness the chief." If asked, to whom is consciousness made the chief, therefore it is said, "To entering or approaching." "Entering" means entering into sexual activity. "Approaching" means striving for the sake of sexual activity. If one understands these two in this way, then for that object, one is making consciousness the chief. If asked, to what does one enter or approach, therefore it is said, "To sexual activity." This is a synonym for "the union of two." If asked, to whose sexual activity, therefore it is said, "Of men and women." It is to the sexual activity of men and women. If asked, what kind of men and women, therefore it is said, "They are householders." If those two men and women are householders. If, in general, it is a non-householder such as a heretical renunciate, then at that time it is a misdeed. If asked, is it alright for those two to dwell in any place, therefore it is said, "In another place." If that place is not the monk's own, that is, if that place belongs to both the man and the woman, or to either one. This offense is established from causing harm to those two, but if it is in the monk's own dwelling, then this offense does not occur. If the householder's place is lent to the monk by the householder and the monk dwells there, then at that time there is no offense. If that place is
