Those creatures that have become attached should be filtered with that water strainer, and then those creatures should be returned to the well, etc. For that water strainer, too, just as before, it should be hung with two ropes attached to both the top and bottom. Regarding the method of removing creatures attached to the water strainer, it is to rinse it. That is to say, the method of removing and eliminating creatures attached to the water strainer is to rinse it with water. Regarding removing dirt, it is to wash it. That is to say, the method of removing dirt attached to the water strainer is to wash it with water. Regarding not allowing it to rot, it is to dry it, and the word "method" should also be added. The thing that rots is the rotting itself, the method of not allowing the water strainer to rot is to dry it in the sun, etc. For both of those, squeezing it tightly is beneficial. That is to say, the ritual of the water strainer, removing dirt and not allowing it to rot, those two things mentioned earlier, should both be squeezed tightly to let the water drip out, as this is beneficial. There is no fault in using the Sangha, the individual, the water strainer, and the water with knowledge that has not been obtained. Regarding the phrase "there is no fault in using it with knowledge that has not been obtained," it should be applied separately to the four, starting with the Sangha. That is, there is no fault in the Sangha using it with knowledge that has not been obtained; there is no fault in the individual using it with knowledge that has not been obtained; there is no fault in the water strainer using it with knowledge that has not been obtained; and there is no fault in the water using it with knowledge that has not been obtained. Among these, the meaning of the Sangha "not obtained" is that this Sangha is not referred to as using water with living creatures. The meaning of the individual "not obtained" is that this individual does not use water with living creatures. The meaning of the water strainer "not obtained" is that the water filtered by this water strainer is always clean. The meaning of the water "not obtained" is that the water in this well has never become water with living creatures. If a householder also does not refer to water with living creatures on occasion, then they are also included in the "individual not obtained" here. Here, the text says that water can be used in five ways: the Sangha can use it, the individual can use it, the water strainer can

It is reasonable, a well is reasonable, and anything within a day and night is reasonable, so it is said. Here, the first four reasons are included in this sutra, in order. The fifth reason, the inclusion of one day and night, is to show that drawing water and wells, etc., should be followed by observation until sunrise, as it is said. Drawing water and wells should be followed by observation until sunrise. Here, a well should be understood as a water pit. If one sees the foot-washing basin empty, one should fill it, so it is said. A foot-washing basin is a vessel needed by the Sangha for washing feet, etc. If one sees the foot-washing basin empty, one should fill it. Water and other vessels should also be placed nearby, so it is said. Vessels for water and other vessels for ghee, sesame oil, etc., should also be held by the Sangha. What belongs to the Sangha is the work of washing utensils, so it is said. The water vessels and other vessels of the Sangha that belong to their scope, the washing of utensils related to them, should be understood as the work of assigning someone to wash utensils. Here, the text is that from the base of the dwelling, patrons and others came to the monastery, and they obtained vessels made by potters, etc., and the Blessed One said, "Please bless them." Because no one collected them, they were wasted. The Blessed One said, "Monks should appoint someone to wash utensils, and he should also give to those who come," so it is said. Here, giving and receiving, etc., are not excluded, so it is said. Showing the work of washing utensils, here, giving utensils and receiving, etc., are not excluded, but included. It is shown thus: giving and receiving are also done by the one who washes utensils. If an old householder wishes to borrow it, if he has it, he should give it, so it is said. If householders wish to borrow old utensils from the Sangha, if the monk who washes utensils has the old utensils, he should lend them. He also did not show that he should give to the patrons in the monastery.
