What is it? It is taught thus: If I go there, there will be a water strainer. If it is not certain in that way, then at that time, without a water strainer, he should not go there. If one says that one has many, including the Sangha, and will not become devoid of it, then if there is one water strainer, he will not become devoid of the water strainer of many monks, including the Sangha, but will become possessed of it. It is taught thus: If many monks who have become a Sangha wish to travel with one water strainer, then at that time there is no fault. It is said that it is not the case that one will become impoverished by a fast current. It was previously said that it was five kroshas. It should be understood that even in the case of a fast current of water, one will not become impoverished. It is not the case that one will not become impoverished beyond five kroshas in the case of a fast current of water. It is indeed the case that one will become impoverished. Here, the text says, "Venerable one, is it permissible to drink from a flowing river without a water strainer? It is permissible to approach and drink within five kroshas." Because he goes following the direction of the current, he is allowed to enter within the distance of a krosha. "That" refers to the fast current of water. "In the direction of the current" means going in the direction of the current, not in the opposite direction. "Following" means following immediately after the current has passed, not following at another time after the current has passed. "Going" refers to the monk who goes in that way. "He" refers to the one who previously examined the water at the beginning of the krosha. "Within the distance of a krosha" means from the place where the water was previously examined at the beginning of the krosha, up to the end of one krosha. "It is permissible to enter" means that the monk who goes in that way, the one who previously examined the water at the beginning of the krosha, can freely use and enter within the end of one krosha without having to examine the water. From then on, again that monk

The water should be tested. As before, combine appropriately. In order to show the special features of what has been done generally, it is said, "Up to that point" if it mixes with other water. If the fast-flowing water mixes with other water within the limit of one yojana, then wherever it mixes, up to that point, that monk can freely use and drink the water that he previously tested at the beginning of the yojana. Below the mixing point, he should test and drink again, this is the concluding statement. From the testing point to the surrounding one fathom is the same, meaning that from the place of testing the water up to the surrounding one fathom is the testing itself. Here the scripture says, "What is the range of water that monks drink? The nearby surrounding is one fathom." Water that is pure by the eye is pure, meaning, what water is pure? Water that is pure by the eye is pure. This shows that water should be tested with the eye, and if no creatures are visible in it, then at that time it should be known that the water is pure. With what eye? Therefore it is said, it is the eye of an ordinary person, because it can be named with the flesh eye. Here the scripture says that when the venerable Magga tested the water with the divine eye, he saw that the beings of the intermediate state pervaded everything, and the Blessed One said, "The divine eye cannot be named, therefore do not test the water with the divine eye, but rather use the five usable waters as before." It is said that one should examine that which is unmoving and without turbidity, meaning that one should examine the water that is unmoving and does not move, and that which is without the turbidity of dust and dirt, and is very clear. It is said that it should be a full pot of water, meaning that one should examine a full pot of water. One should not examine it for a long time, counting it as beyond the scope of work, meaning that for the matter of examining water, one should not examine it for a long time, saying that it is beyond the scope of work. This shows that for a long time
