For the sake of teaching, it is said that whatever is closely used as utensils is the body. It should be known that whatever is closely used as food and other utensils is only closely used for the body. What are the body's utensils? Therefore, it is said that food and alms bowls, robes and dwellings, as well as rinsing the mouth and fire, etc., are the body's utensils. What is called food is eating and drinking, etc. Alms bowls and robes, dwellings, rinsing the mouth and fire, etc., and the word "etc." includes beds and low beds, cushions with linings, and lava, etc. It should be known that these are the body's utensils. Then, what should be observed as being related to the body's utensils? Therefore, it is said that related to those are earth and heavy objects, paints and grass, wood, etc. It should be known that related to the body's utensils are earth and heavy objects, paints and grass, wood, etc. Then, how are water and other things needed for those related to the body's utensils? Therefore, it is said that the need for those is like this: for cleaning and washing, rinsing the mouth, as well as repairing and sweeping, wiping, and broth and soup, porridge, etc. It is said that for those related to the body's utensils, water and other things are needed. The so-called "like this" is a word of close reference. Cleaning and washing, rinsing the mouth, refers to alms bowls, etc. Repairing and sweeping, wiping, refers to dwellings, etc. Broth and soup, porridge, etc., refers to eating and drinking, etc. The word "for" should be connected to all the preceding words. The phrase "for example, also combining" that appears in the following sutra should also be combined here. The so-called "prohibiting and eliminating water flow" refers to actions such as prohibiting and eliminating water routes such as canals. Also, the bending, straightening, and peeling of wood and vines, etc.

Furthermore, actions such as placing trees in water, dragging them in the water, or pulling them from the water to dry land, as well as placing floating objects like water plants in the water, dragging them in the water, or pulling them from the water to dry land, are also considered (transgressive) actions. Mentioning trees and floating objects is just an example; other similar things are also included. If one washes woolen fabrics, etc., other than single-layered ones, it is also the same. The so-called "other than single-layered" refers to washing woolen fabrics, etc., other than single-layered ones, which also constitutes (transgressive) actions. The word "etc." also includes patched clothes, etc. If one washes in water that is particularly abundant with living creatures, it is also considered (transgressive) actions. The word "also" means that even if it is a single-layered garment, washing it in a place where there are particularly many living creatures is also considered (transgressive) actions. Here, the scriptures state that if a monk sprinkles water containing living creatures, or wipes, or makes porridge, soup, or tsampa, etc., with it, he commits a downfall for as many creatures as die, and if they do not die, he commits a misdeed. If a monk blocks or clears a water channel containing living creatures, he commits a downfall for as many creatures as die, and if they do not die, he commits a misdeed. If a monk plants or drags trees into water containing living creatures, or pulls them from the water to dry land, or moves floating objects, or drags them, or pulls them from the water to dry land, he commits a downfall for as many creatures as die, and if they do not die, he commits a misdeed. If a monk washes woolen or patched clothes in water containing living creatures, he commits a downfall for as many creatures as die, and if they do not die, he commits a misdeed. The Blessed One taught that a monk should not wash woolen or patched clothes; if he washes them, he will commit a transgression. In this way, single-layered clothes can be washed. The monks completely abandoned washing, and the Blessed One taught that one should not wash in a place where there are many living creatures and little water, but in a place where there is much water.
