Therefore, they said, "It is not eating together." Wherever it is determined that the food is different, that is the food that is determined separately. Those bhikshus who have that place are those who have the place of separately determined food. Apart from those bhikshus, four or more who have become a sangha of bhikshus and reside within the boundary, their food gathers together and they eat together, and whatever perception there is of knowing that in that realm of not eating together, that is the most important. Gathering and the sangha separately, etc., should also be understood to be this meaning. If a bhikshu alone eats food that is not eaten together, will this downfall also occur? Therefore, it is said, "Together," not alone. With what kind of situation together? Therefore, it is said, "Eating the first mouthful together," it is together with eating at the same time, but not together with eating in sequence, it means starting to eat at the same time. With whom together? Therefore, it is said, "Three, etc.," it is together with a group of three or four, etc. Here the scripture says that if one of the four speaks and three eat, there is no downfall. If it is said, "Three, etc.," are they ordained bhikshus or not ordained? Whose three, etc.? Therefore, it is said, "Of the bhikshus," having said bhikshus, it should be known that they are those who have been ordained. Here the scripture says that in pointing out the downfall, if there are three ordained bhikshus and one unordained, there is no downfall. Is this the case for all times that come together? Therefore, it is said, "Just as in what way does a bhikshu become the author of finding a second unclothed food," just as a bhikshu finds a second unclothed food at an improper time and eats it repeatedly, so too here, bhikshus who are not sick, bhikshus who have not worked, bhikshus who have not set out on the road, bhikshus who have not boarded a boat, bhikshus who have not traveled half a krosha on land and water routes gather together.

It should be understood in this way. Regarding the statement "half a yojana," the question is, if a monk travels more than half a yojana and then eats or does not eat with the Sangha, what kind of offense is committed? The close relatives (referring to close monks) say there is no offense. If food is eaten together without permission, does this apply to all situations? Therefore, it is said that this does not apply to large festivals. The large festival mentioned here refers to eating dough. Eating dough means kneading dough and bringing it to gardens, etc., and eating it in different groups. For example, like festivals such as picking lotus flowers, there is no offense in these cases. But in other cases, an offense will be committed. If it is mentioned below that "ate," does it mean that a monk who is not at the mealtime will commit an offense no matter what he eats? Therefore, it is said that this does not include the food of renunciants without marks. Renunciants without marks refer to non-Buddhist renunciants. The so-called "other than their food" refers to food other than the food of non-Buddhist renunciants. If a monk who is not at the mealtime eats these foods, he will commit an offense. The meanings explained in these three sutras all come from the Pratimoksha Sutra, which mentions that if they gather together to eat, unless it is a special situation, they will commit a downfall offense. The so-called special situations refer to when one is sick, when one is working, when one is on the road, when one is on a boat, when there is a large gathering, and when it is the monks' mealtime. These are special situations. What does it mean to commit an offense if one follows a certain behavior? Therefore, it is said, eating food, that is, swallowing it into the throat. For those who live within the monastery grounds, living in fixed residences, if they eat without permission, they will commit a half-downfall offense. The so-called "living within the monastery grounds" refers to those monks who live in the monastery's residences and houses, and have fixed residences within the monastery grounds. These monks who live within the monastery grounds, if they eat without permission,
