Cooked rice, sixteen "srad" of dry Magadha. One "srad" of Magadha is equivalent to two "srad" of Tibet. A small handful of dry rice is equivalent to thirty-two "srang" of Tibet. If calculated in "phul", then seven "phul" is equivalent to one "do" and one "khyor". The meaning of "except for vegetables" is that vegetables are not counted there. No matter how many monks there are, if they receive more alms than the cooked dry Magadha five and a half small "bre'u" of rice, excluding vegetables, then everything will lead to downfall. Here the scripture says that no matter how many monks there are, if they receive more alms than five and a half small "bre'u", then everything will lead to downfall. If that monk has friends, should each of those friends also receive that much? No. Therefore, it is said that "it also includes the share of friends". No matter how many friends there are, they should include their share and receive that much, and not receive more. Here the scripture is, if you want to quote from the Pratimoksha Sutra, then those monks should receive two or three bowls of food. If they receive more, then it will lead to downfall. When will the sin of exceeding the indicated amount of food be committed? Therefore, it is said "when eating". When swallowing, is it that everything that is eaten will be a sin? Therefore, it is said "when accepting". It means accepting and then taking it elsewhere. Here the scripture is that when requesting, just stay there, and no matter how much you eat, it will not lead to downfall. For that, an evil deed will be committed. It means that when accepting, if you accept more than the limited amount of food, then when preparing, you will commit an evil deed. Saying "what others accept is also" means that eating what others let you accept will also commit an evil deed. Here the scripture is that when requesting, if you give others more than two or three bowls of oil cakes and fried food, then you will commit an evil deed. Saying "for others there is no downfall" means that for not accepting anything other than accepting food, there is no downfall. Here the scripture is, just stay there, no matter how much

That which was previously stated, "Even if eaten, there is no downfall," is the same. This sutra was made to dispel doubts about wrongdoing. The statement "Even that which has not been done" means that even if one receives and eats rice and other foods that have not been milled, there is no downfall. This refers to the absence of offense in this particular case, but other offenses, such as taking a small amount of grain, do exist. Regarding "If there is indeed much to be taken, it should be distributed among the monks," the term "to be taken" means that which is appropriate to take, such as cooked rice porridge or five and a half small Magadhan bowls of food, along with condiments. Regarding "If there is indeed much," the object of "much" is indeed much, meaning if that which is to be taken is more than one's own consumption. The statement "It should be distributed among the monks" means that if there is indeed much, then at that time it should also be distributed among the monks. Therefore, the mention of "indeed much" is to show that if it is more than one's own consumption, it should be eaten without wasting. If it is not more than one's own consumption, then it should not be wasted but should be distributed among the monks. Therefore, in the Pratimoksha Sutra, it is also said, "Having taken two or three full bowls, go to the outer assembly hall and distribute it among the assembled monks, and I myself should also eat." This is a supplement to the phrase "if there is more than that which is to be taken." The offense of taking more than two or three bowls has already been explained. Now, intending to speak of the downfall of eating after abandoning, it is said, "One should eat only as much as is sufficient," meaning one should eat only as much as is necessary to be free from the suffering of hunger. The statement "One should not rise after beginning to eat" means that a monk, having begun to eat, should not rise until he has eaten enough, which is synonymous with "one should not leave the seat." Other things that should be eaten are done through giving and receiving, not by oneself, because the word "begun" is mentioned, and also because the phrase "abandoning the dwelling" will appear later. Therefore, even if "for the sake of eating" is not mentioned, it is established, so there is no need to state it separately. Now, food
