etc., are prohibitions that should not be explicitly stated. It is taught thus: Even a little cannot be accepted, except for exhortation and recollection, etc., even a little should not be explicitly stated. Any speech other than direct slander and backbiting is included here. "One who has become angry should not be appointed to a task by oneself," means: Any person who cannot accept even a little, if they become angry and displeased, then the one who has become angry, as a monk who performs the tasks of the Sangha, should not appoint them to the tasks of the Sangha by oneself, but should appoint them through others. The offense of slander has already been explained. Chapter Twenty-Four. Intending to speak of the offense of admonishment that is harsh to the ears, incidentally, this should be stated: Admonishment that pertains to discussion, harsh to the ears with words, and harsh to the ears with silence, and direct slander and indirect backbiting to the persons indicated, should not be considered as not counting as a request, meaning: Admonishment that pertains to discussion, harsh to the ears with words, and harsh to the ears with silence, and direct slander and indirect backbiting to the persons indicated, combining these words, one should not consider them as not counting as the act of requesting, but should count them, this is the prohibition. The meaning of the four words, such as admonishment that pertains to discussion, harsh to the ears with words, will be explained. Regarding admonishment that pertains to discussion, harsh to the ears with words, "pertains to discussion" means the aspect of discussion related to discussion. "Its admonishment" means the words of admonishment that pertain to discussion, that is, the words asked by the one who discusses. That admonishment is harsh to the ears in two ways: harsh to the ears with words and harsh to the ears with silence. Among them, harsh to the ears with words is harsh to the ears with inconsistent words, that is, the one who discusses, the person to be discussed, any words of admonishment that pertain to discussion that are harsh to the ears. Harsh to the ears with silence is indicated by "harsh to the ears with silence." Direct slander to the persons indicated

That is to say, directly mocking the twelve types of people previously indicated. The so-called "mocking in a roundabout way" is to mock those twelve types of people themselves in a roundabout way. The so-called "not to be counted because of request" means that for those four types of people, using the method of requesting in advance, admonishing them through work, piercing their ears with words, and piercing their ears through silence, as well as direct mockery, and mocking in a roundabout way, should be counted in order. The so-called counting means that we know that you have such bad behavior, and we include you among those who have bad behavior, like this, including those shameless people in the count. If this is done, will the admonishment that pierces the ears become a transgression? Therefore, it is said that the Bhikshu pierces the ears with admonishment. The Bhikshus pierce the ears with admonishment. With what kind of thought? Therefore, it is said, because of wanting to do so. Because of wanting to pierce the ears. How to do it? Therefore, it is said, because of saying something else. The Bhikshu's admonishment is that if the Bhikshu says a different, inconsistent, and wrong answer from the question, it will pierce the ears. Like this, here the treatise is, from the perspective of differentiation, if the Bhikshu answers something else when someone asks a question, then all of them will become transgressions. If it is understood as "he said something wrong," then this fault will arise here, like this, the treatise says, from the perspective of asking, if one speaks differently to people in the central region with the language of the border region, or to people in the border region with the language of the central region, then one will commit a minor offense. The so-called "committing a minor offense because of silence" means that because of silence, if the Bhikshu pierces the ears with admonishment, he will commit a minor offense. If one says "I don't remember," then, yes, if the Bhikshu pierces the ears with admonishment, he will commit a minor offense. Here, the treatise says, from the perspective of some questions, if one says "I don't remember," one will commit a minor offense. If what is said becomes suffering, then there is no offense. If what is said, is said to others, and becomes a cause of suffering, then even if one says something else, there is no transgression.
