If one thinks it is improper, that is, thinks of any inferiority, whether physical or mental, and speaks it out, it will constitute a downfall caused by speaking of faults. For example, saying "You are a leper" or "blind" and the like, or saying "You are angry" or "quarrelsome" and so on. Even if one does not become unhappy, it will still constitute a transgression. The so-called "unhappy" refers to anger, quarreling, frustration, resentment, becoming unpleasant, and so on, which have the same meaning. "Not become" means that the listener has not become unhappy. However, it will still constitute a transgression caused by speaking of faults. Therefore, the scripture here says that it does not matter whether the bhikkhu becomes unhappy or not. In addition, if one says that the caste is a royal caste or a Brahmin caste, etc., it will constitute a misdeed. The so-called "in addition" refers to something other than thinking it is improper. If one says to a bhikkhu that the caste is a royal caste or a Brahmin caste, etc., it will constitute a misdeed. If one says it to the Sangha, etc., it will constitute a minor misdeed. The downfall caused by speaking of faults has been explained. Next, wanting to explain the downfall of divisive speech, one says, "Wanting to divide, so-and-so said" and so on. The so-called "wanting to divide" refers to wanting to separate others. If one says to a bhikkhu, "So-and-so bhikkhu said such and such," this is the actual act. Here, the fault itself is not a limb, nor is thinking it is improper a limb, because it is the person who wants to create division. If one asks what the use is, therefore it is said, "If one speaks from the name." If one says to a bhikkhu, "The bhikkhu named so-and-so said such and such," if one speaks from the name. The so-called "also that bhikkhu" refers to the person who is spoken of by name, if he is also a bhikkhu. The word "also" includes "the person being admonished, if he is also a bhikkhu." This explains that if both people being divided are bhikkhus, it will constitute a transgression.

It is done. The one who causes the division is undoubtedly a bhikṣu, because only a bhikṣu can commit a transgression. Therefore, if the two to be distinguished are not bhikṣus, then the one who causes the division commits a minor offense. Furthermore, the term "minor offense" means that even if one element is missing from the previously stated complete definition, it is still a minor offense. For example, it is like saying, "A person of the royal caste or a Brahmin, or a Vaishya caste says this." The transgression of sowing discord has been explained. Now, intending to explain the transgression of instigating quarrels, it is said, "Cognition is primary." The term "one who makes cognition primary" refers to understanding through names and those who possess names. In order to indicate the object of the name, it is said, "The dispute between two bhikṣus should be properly pacified by the sangha." The dispute that arises because two bhikṣus are fighting should be properly pacified by the sangha. For such an object, cognition is complete understanding, and that cognition is the main agent of this transgression. Here, the scripture says: "Regarding a dispute caused by fighting, if one cognizes it as a dispute caused by fighting." If both the disputant and the respondent are bhikṣus, then that is the actual basis for instigating quarrels. If one or both are bhikṣuṇīs, etc., then it is a minor offense. Here, the scripture says: "If a bhikṣu, in a request, instigates a quarrel arising from a dispute with a bhikṣuṇī, what transgression is committed? A novice commits a minor offense. It is the same for disputes with bhikṣuṇīs, bhikṣuṇīs, and śrāmaṇerikās," and so on. If one does this, what fault is committed? Therefore, it is said, "Quarreling." The term "instigating quarrels" means creating confusion, not resolving properly, nor pacifying with the Dharma, that is instigating quarrels. Therefore, it is also said, "If one instigates a quarrel of action," here "also" is a synonym for "the action itself." "One who makes cognition primary,"

ba smras na. Who are those whose consciousness is the agent of such blamelessness? Therefore, it is said that only those who abide, act, and offer devotion are the principal ones. Whatever consciousness there is, that is the agent of the principal. Abiding means: whoever knows the beginning, middle, and end of the dispute. Acting means: whoever acts in order to pacify the dispute. Offering devotion means: whoever has offered devotion in order to do that action. Therefore, it is said that if one regrets after having allowed, it means: the word is that one regrets after having previously given permission. It is said that for those who express views and those who come suddenly, there is only wrongdoing. For those who express views and those who come suddenly, whatever consciousness there is, that is only the agent of wrongdoing, because those who express views have not fully arrived, and those who come suddenly do not know the cause. To perceive another dispute as another dispute is the same as that. It means that there is no fault in perceiving a fault of dispute for the sake of fighting as the dispute itself, because it is the same as that. That is, it is the same as the dispute itself for the sake of fighting, and it will become the principal transgression. Here, only the dispute itself is the measure, but the details of the dispute are not the measure. For those who abide in the fruit of karma but act in a way that is not that, there is only half. The fruit of karma means: whatever is said to be the fruit of actions such as supplication, such as giving teachings. Abiding in that fruit means: having obtained that fruit and abiding in that fruit. By not being that means: by not abiding in that. Acting means regretting. Only half means: that will become a transgression. Here the text is: From the request, the monk says to the monk's teaching: 'You have not given the teaching.'
