No. It is taught thus: Whatever gain arises for the sake of the summer retreat is the cause of downfall here, not other gains. If one asks, 'What should be done to make it the cause of downfall?' Therefore, it is said, 'To take possession during the summer,' meaning to take possession of the gains of the summer within the three months of the summer retreat. It is taught thus: If a monk takes possession of the gains arising for the sake of the summer retreat during the summer, then he will incur a relinquishment downfall. Desiring to make a general statement and then a specific exclusion, it is said, 'Except for the gains in the last ten days due to unforeseen circumstances.' 'Due to unforeseen circumstances' means due to sudden events. 'In the last ten days' means from the last ten days of the three months of the summer retreat, i.e., from the fifth to the fifteenth of the middle autumn month, or from the fifth to the fifteenth of the last autumn month. 'Gains' refers to the gains arising for the sake of the summer retreat. 'Except' means that there is no fault even if one takes possession of them. It is taught thus: If monks, due to obstacles to the gains of the monks, or due to obstacles to the merit of the patrons, take possession of the gains arising for the sake of the summer retreat in the last ten days, then it will not be considered a fault. The five robes arising from unforeseen circumstances, given to the sick, or given for the sake of the sick, or given to the dying, or given to the dead, or given to those who are about to depart, are only examples. It is said to include the fear of being taken away by kings, thieves, lineage, water, etc., and the fear of the share belonging to the place of offering being seized. 'Even if it is divided' means that even if the gains arising from unforeseen circumstances are divided during the summer, it is still the cause of downfall. It is taught thus: If one takes possession of the gains arising from unforeseen circumstances and then distributes them during the summer, then one will still incur a relinquishment downfall.

Therefore, the gains during the summer period, merely possessing them during the summer period, is not only an act of downfall, but also this possession itself. Here, the scripture should be accepted. After accepting, it should be held until the time of giving clothes, this is what the Buddha said. Gains arising from transfer should not be divided even if possessed; if placed, it will become a relinquishment downfall. Gains arising during the summer period, even if possessed, will become a relinquishment downfall, and if placed, it will also become a relinquishment downfall. In which monasteries are there definite Dharma robe materials, as long as they have not been obtained, the possession of them will not occur, and if obtained, then it is already possessed. Even if not divided, it is the same, this is added after "that." Gains arising from transfer, arising in the summer, if not divided at the time of giving clothes, but held beyond that time, is also an act of downfall. Thus it is declared, the three kinds of acts of downfall, namely possessing, placing, and not placing during the summer period, all three of which are the actors of the actual acts of possessing, placing, and not placing, not the preparatory actions. Here the scripture is, if a bhikkhu places the summer gains until the end of the summer, or handles them beyond the time of giving clothes, in all cases it will become a relinquishment downfall, this is what the Buddha said. Even if not divided, it is the same, after speaking of the general situation, wanting to speak of its special situation, therefore, with the words of the donor, it is said, "Even if there is no power, it is the same," if the donor says this, temporarily do not divide, I will come and give with my own hands, if not divided for this reason, there is no fault. If not divided without the words of the donor, then there is only fault. When not to divide? Therefore, it is said, "After the day of prohibition and release, that day to those who have not been invited," the day of prohibition and release refers to the middle of autumn, when the earlier commitment to abide in summer.
