Therefore, having said "of the alms bowl," it is added to "unblessed." The manner of belonging to the ten-day holding of robes, which was shown earlier in the chapter on abandoning holding, should also be added here. In the place where "of the robe" was mentioned earlier, "of the alms bowl" should be placed here. Although the classifications are different, there will be no difference in meaning. Like here, it should be understood that "of the alms bowl" is spoken because of the relationship between the place and the one who has the place. For example, just as when "of the robe" was spoken earlier, and "one's own" exists in the place, it is similar to "if there is," similarly, "of the alms bowl" becomes the place, and "one's own" exists, because it is related to "if there is," therefore the meaning is the same. In this way, the meaning of the words here appears as follows: the alms bowl is unblessed and blessed, if there is, one's own, and belonging to the ten-day following, and the first day of another, if there is another here, it is added to the unblessed, up to its limit. These words have already been spoken earlier in the chapter on abandoning holding. Determining the meaning with respect to the ordained is indeed abandonment, meaning that dedicating and determining the alms bowl for the sake of the ordained, if it is given to a virtuous man who will become ordained in the future, dedicating and determining the alms bowl for the sake of the ordained, whatever is done in this way is abandonment, therefore even if held, it will not become abandonment. Gray, white, and large ones are not suitable, meaning that alms bowls that are gray, white, and large are not suitable, because they are not suitable, they should not be blessed, and if held, one commits a misdeed. Undyed ones are also small in size, for this statement, in order to repeat the statement "not suitable," the word "also" is spoken. Just as when the alms bowl is small, it cannot perform the function of an alms bowl.

The uncolored bowl is also similar to that matter, saying it is small. Even if the bowl turns black, if it is not colored, know that it is not permissible to be small either. This is its conclusion. Here, the text of these two sutras says that holding an uncolored bowl is a downfall. Similarly, it is said that holding a gray bowl, a white bowl, or a large bowl is also a downfall. In this way, it is said in the distinctions that there is no downfall in holding a small bowl, etc., which means that if one holds it with the intention of using it as a medicine bowl, there is no downfall. Here, it refers to the fact that when holding a bowl and when not holding a bowl, those who hold it for the sake of the bowl are said to have committed a downfall. There is no fault in having one small bowl, which means that it should be known that there is no fault in additionally holding one small bowl. Because it is said that in times of fear, one should take a small bowl to travel. If one cannot take it, how should the small bowl travel? That is what is thought. The abandonment of holding a bowl has been explained. Now, the abandonment of seeking extra bowls will be explained. Seeking also comes from attachment, so in general, this should be said. Do not be too attached, which means that a monk should not be too attached to all things. Because of attachment, the text here is spoken in the context of the basis of dwelling, in the time of near joy. Do not be too attached to utensils, which means that a monk should not be too attached to utensils such as bowls. Being too attached means not being too infatuated. Here, not being infatuated is its conclusion. Whatever one is infatuated with, one should not hold. Infatuation is special attachment. Whatever special attachment arises towards things such as bowls, one should not hold, but completely abandon. This is its conclusion. These two sutras come from the root of clothing, and the text here is therefore that a monk should not generate too much attachment to utensils. And

Whatever object one becomes excessively attached to should be completely abandoned. If it is not completely abandoned, it will become a serious transgression, as the Buddha has said. If there is no bowl, one should beg for it. This is to prevent begging, to avoid the arising of attachment, so this statement was made. If there are no items such as a bowl, one should beg for a bowl. The word "also" includes that if there are no Dharma robes, one should also beg for them. If one possesses something, what fault arises from seeking a bowl? Therefore, it is said, "In the case of its existence," if the seeker already possesses the bowl, that is, already possesses it, then this downfall will occur. In what kind of existence? Therefore, it is said, "From less than four patches onwards, those are permissible and can be fully used," from less than four patches onwards, those are permissible, meaning that from less than four patches onwards, after being sewn, those are permissible to be sewn. Up to a bowl without defects, from less than four patches onwards, and any bowl between four patches that can be sewn, if it is a bowl that can be fully used, in this case, if one seeks other bowls, then the fault arising from that will occur. Thus, the meaning of the words here is: a bowl without defects, which can be fully used, without faults such as stains, and a bowl that has been sewn with one, two, three, or four patches, and a bowl that can be sewn with one, two, three, or four patches, and can be placed, among these bowls, if one possesses any bowl that can be fully used, but still seeks other bowls, then the fault arising from that will occur. Now it is to be said, if one already possesses a bowl, what kind of fault will occur if one uses something extra? Therefore, it is said, "Begging from a non-relative householder and seeking completely," this is the summary of "begging from a non-relative householder and seeking completely." This explains that if one seeks a bowl completely from somewhere, if that is a householder,
