Because if one asks for it through reasonable means and obtains it, then it constitutes a downfall, so it should be established in this way. In order to show the nature of "what should be asked for in pairs" which will be mentioned below, the maximum size of a householder's upper garment is a large cloth of twelve cubits. The lower skirt is a small cloth of seven cubits and two cubits, that is to say, it should be understood that the complete size of a householder's upper and lower garments is like this. For example, the maximum size of a householder's upper garment is a large cloth of twelve cubits, that is, any large cloth, if its length is twelve cubits, that is a cloth of twelve cubits. Such a large cloth is the householder's upper garment, which is a very large piece of cloth. Here, because of its cause, the width should also be understood to be about three cubits. The maximum size of a householder's lower skirt is a small cloth with a length of seven cubits and a width of two cubits. Such a small cloth is the householder's lower skirt, and here the word "maximum" should also be added. The size of a monk is the order of the monastic robe and the lower garment, as mentioned before, that is to say, the word "size" should be added. The monastic robe and the lower garment are the monastic robe and the lower garment. The order as mentioned before, that is, the second order, etc., that should be understood as the size of the Dharma garment. It has been said like this, the maximum size of a monk's upper garment is the order of the monastic robe as mentioned before. The maximum size of the lower garment is the order of the lower garment as mentioned before. If asked, how many Dharma garments should be asked for? Therefore it is said "what should be asked for in pairs", that is to say, these including the upper and lower garments should be asked for, if there is more, whether it is separate or not separate, it is the maker of downfall. If asked, which of these two pairs of householder and monk should be asked for? Therefore it is said "either one is fine", that is to say, including the householder's upper and lower garments, or including the monk's upper and lower garments. What is more than that size is not what should be asked for, that is to say, what is more than the size mentioned before is not what should be asked for.

It is not. To illustrate this, it is said, "If the former is obtained, supplementation is also permissible." The word "also" is spoken to acknowledge that it should not be begged for. In "If the former is obtained," the former refers to the previously mentioned householder's attire including the upper and lower garments, because the order of the monk's upper and lower garments is explained first. "Obtained" means obtaining something smaller than the size of the previously mentioned householder's attire including the upper and lower garments. "Supplementation" means that supplementation for it should also not be begged for. If the size obtained is small to what extent, should its supplementation not be begged for? Twelve cubits of large cloth, seven cubits of small cloth and below, between two and a half cubits of large cloth, and the size of small cloth that can cover three wheels should be known as the limit of smallness. If something smaller than that is obtained, then its supplementation should be begged for, because very small things cannot be blessed. Two and a half cubits of large cloth and two and a half cubits, and the size of small cloth that can cover three wheels can be blessed without the word "wanting," because it is uncut. As the teacher Yönten Öd said in his own commentary. Whoever wants to hold an uncut Dharma garment wants the householder's attire including the upper and lower garments, and the commentators also say the same. If the uncut Dharma garment is not finished, then one should not even generate the thought of wanting to cut it, because the word "wanting" is taken into consideration. Why should its supplementation not be begged for? Therefore, one should think about it. If one obtains more than the householder's attire including the upper and lower garments, then at that time, the excess itself should not be given away. If a monk, while begging for the upper and lower garments, obtains much more than the size, then what should be done at that time? Therefore, it is said, "If the latter is obtained, the excess should be given away." The monk's upper and lower garments here refer to the householder's attire including the upper and lower garments.
