Here, regarding entering the path, it starts from the aspect related to the body. What is said that within forty-nine cubits is the vicinity, and that in other boundaries, the body's oppression is only a temporary dwelling, that is the meaning. Here, the word "boundary" refers to houses and so on. Without that, it is a place without boundaries. After indicating the dwelling, now we will speak of the vicinity of that dwelling. That is also of two types: being a vicinity by being able to start, which means belonging to the scope of the dwelling by being able to start. For example, when someone dwells somewhere, there is no doubt that an idea arises for him that the surrounding environment can be started. The second, being a vicinity by being close to use, which means being close to the dwelling by being close to use. For example, that dwelling is undoubtedly related to being close to use. Therefore, first, in order to indicate the earliest vicinity, it is said, "The vicinity is one cubit by one cubit around." The so-called "around" refers to the vicinity outside from the boundaries of above, below, and all directions. The so-called "one cubit by one cubit" means that it becomes the same one cubit in all directions. From the basis of the three distinctions of villages, there are distinctions of vicinity being divided and established, etc. In order to indicate those, for a village surrounded by walls, it is said, "How much can be covered by a reed cart pulled by six oxen, or the path where a crow flies up and lands." The so-called "by walls" refers to being surrounded, that is, the village being wrapped around, which means it has become a place, how much can be covered by the road, up to there is the vicinity. If asked what road covers it, therefore it is said, "Covered by a reed cart pulled by six oxen, or the path where a crow flies up and lands." That is, covered by the road of a cart full of reeds that needs to be pulled by six oxen, or covered by the road where a crow flies up and lands, that is, letting the crow fly up, covered by the road until it lands on the ground. For a village surrounded by walls, this or the former, whichever is the vicinity.

The (village) surrounded by a fence refers to the dust of sheep and goats, or the path of excrement of people who are naturally endowed with shame. For a village surrounded by a fence, however much sheep and goats pass by the fence, the dusty path where dust emerges spreads; or, what is meant by 'naturally endowed' is 'essentially endowed with shame,' the path of excrement of those who know shame, up to whatever direction it spreads. For a village surrounded by a fence, whichever of these or the previous one it may be, it is the vicinity. The (village) surrounded by a moat refers to a ladder with twelve rungs, or the path of a thick stick of a discarded broom. For a village surrounded by a moat, the path that reaches as far as the length of a ladder with twelve rungs spreads; or, the thick stick that is part of a discarded broom, rolling by its own force, the path that extends as far as it goes. For a village surrounded by a moat, whichever of these or the previous one it may be, it is the vicinity. Based on the three distinctions of a village, from the distinctions of vicinity, the two vicinities of a village surrounded by walls, and the very first vicinity of a village surrounded by a moat, are the demarcated vicinity. The two vicinities of a village surrounded by a fence, and the later vicinity of a village surrounded by a moat, are the vicinity of practice, because they are the vicinity that belongs to the scope of the place by being able to be worked on. Now, the vicinity that is close to the place by the very act of using it is to be spoken of, that is, the immediate actions of that place, going, sitting, and the dusts, etc., that belong there spread out. That is to say, in whatever place the vicinity is determined, the immediate actions of that place, going, sitting, and what the dusts are, the immediate actions of that place, going, sitting, and the dusts, etc., belong there, that is, in whatever direction the place exists, it spreads out, that is, it is understood. That is the vicinity that is close to the place by the very act of using it, it should be understood in this way. This sutra is from the Vinaya, wherever houses, etc., are, the places where those gather, and
