Etc., it is said. The phrase "a small piece is not abandoned" means that a small piece less than one cubit (khru gang khor yug) in circumference is not to be abandoned. It is taught thus: when an object to be abandoned becomes fragments, it is not necessary to abandon it at the time of confession, because it is smaller than one cubit in circumference, and what is small is not suitable for abandonment. Here, the scripture is from Ananda's question: If a monk's monastic robe is burned, or eaten by animals and insects, should the fragments be abandoned? Ananda, do not do so, only confess the downfall. These are summarized here. The phrase "belonging to the Sangha" means that items not divided as belonging to the Sangha are also not to be abandoned. There are two types of items belonging to the Sangha: those divided as personal property belonging to the Sangha, and those not divided. Among them, for items divided as personal property belonging to the Sangha, the downfall of abandonment occurs due to the reasons of holding, separating, and placing, because everything can be possessed like an individual's. For items not divided as belonging to the Sangha, possession like another person's does not occur, so all that was previously taught does not occur. If a monastic robe belonging to the Sangha that is not divided is blessed by someone, and separated from the monastic robe, then only the downfall should be confessed, and the monastic robe should not be abandoned. Here, the scripture is from Ananda's question: After a monk has blessed a monastic robe of the Sangha, and separates it outside the boundary, should it be said that it is separated from the monastic robe? Should it be said that it is not separated? The Buddha said: It should be said that it is separated from the monastic robe. Should the monastic robe be abandoned? Ananda, do not do so, only confess the downfall. Because it is not so, it is not necessary to separate. The phrase "here, non-existence is the main thing" means that for an object to be abandoned, that object does not belong to that person, that is what is non-existent.

That is it. Its essence is that which does not exist. That very abandonment is the main thing, but the substance to be abandoned is not the main thing. Therefore, for the Dharma garment damaged by dirt and so on, only the downfall should be confessed. Here, the scripture asks: If a monastic bhikkhu's Dharma garment that has been abandoned becomes damaged, should he confess the downfall? The attendant says that only the downfall should be confessed. These three do not occur on a hard spread, that is to say, only the following three types of abandonment downfalls occur: holding, separation, and placing. A bhikkhu does not commit these sins on a hard spread. Whoever lays out a hard spread, it is on that. The common characteristics of the abandonment downfalls have been explained. Now, let's talk about each case separately. First, wanting to talk about the characteristics of the abandonment downfall of holding, it is said, "If there is." Who has it? Therefore, it is said, "One's own," that is, one's own. Not all of "one's own" is a limb, so what is it? Therefore, it is said, "It has been followed for ten days," that is, if that thing has not been blessed for ten days, or has not been distinguished, but has followed "I." When will it become abandonment? Therefore, it is said, "In the other, the first ray of the sun," that is, other than what was just said, "It has been followed for ten days," the first moment of the first ray of the sun, that is, at dawn, it will become abandonment. This shows that if it has been continuously followed for ten days and regarded as one's own, then when the first ray of dawn appears on the eleventh day, it will become the abandonment downfall of holding. Where does owning one's own things become an abandonment downfall? Therefore, it is said, "On clothes," that is, on clothes, not on bowls and medicine, this is a defining term. Not all clothes are allowed either, such as the edge range covering the three circumferences. The three circumferences refer to the central circumference of the navel and the two joints of the kneecap.
