The mere fact that the meaning of what is said is understood in the mind of the listener is understanding. When the speaker's mouth, through the actions of the lips and other organs, produces sounds, and the content of what is said, such as letters, is understood by the listener, that is the end of understanding, meaning complete and ultimate. This is explained as follows: If, at the moment the first letter is uttered, the listener understands its meaning, then that itself is the fundamental fault. Any subsequent minor transgressions all belong to this category, because they are all part of the same effort. Saying something related to this is not non-union; to explain this, the word "that" is used to refer to the root, and is connected with words such as "hundred" and "ear." "Related to this" means related to the words of the fundamental meaning, that is, combined with the words of the fundamental meaning, having an obscene nature. Its meaning refers to wounds, etc. Saying these things, for example, if one says, "Your three wounds are all good, all exist well, all have become good," this is saying that meaning. Saying these things is not non-union, but union itself. This is explained as follows: If a monk uses words such as "hundred" and "ear" to refer to the root, and utters words related to the fundamental meaning, then those words are union itself, meaning coarse. If one does not speak words related to the root, then why would those words become union? To dispel this doubt, this sutra was spoken. Uttering words such as "hundred" and "ear," there is no doubt that this itself is the union that arises from the meaning related to the root. Praise and non-praise, supplication and near supplication, inquiry and complete inquiry, statement and wish, rebuke and rebuttal, etc., are no different. Praise, etc.
