The term "requesting permission" means: with the request of "Is there anything?", the arrival of the person to be fully ordained is requested from the Sangha. The secret teaching is completed. Second volume. After requesting the arrival, all the Sangha should say "If it is completely pure," to which "all" refers: in order to show that it is not without a response. "If it is completely pure" means: if the person to be fully ordained, those obstructing dharmas are completely pure. The word "if" refers to the meaning of tending to what was just said, meaning that only that can be said, and nothing more, that is its definition. "Should say" means: should speak. "When the Sangha allows, after the person who wants to be fully ordained enters the Sangha, what should the Karma master do?" The answer is: the Karma master should have the person who wants to be fully ordained make a request. The Karma master, in order to have the person who wants to be fully ordained receive full ordination, has him make a request, meaning to have him make a request. After the request, the Sangha should be informed, therefore it says: after requesting the Sangha, inquire about obstacles. After requesting the Sangha, it means: in order to inquire about obstacles, make a request to the Sangha, and make it known. How to inquire about obstacles? With the mantra of "Venerable one, listen! This is your time of truth, this is the time of occurrence," and so on. After inquiring about obstacles, one should achieve full ordination, which means: the Karma master, with the request and the four karmas, causes the person who wants to be fully ordained to achieve full ordination, meaning that one should truly obtain it, this is the definition of abiding. After achieving full ordination, one should immediately know the length of the shadow, which means: when one becomes fully ordained, immediately any bhikkhu should measure the shadow, and know the length of that shadow, that the shadow of the fully ordained person has now become this long. And with what is that measurement done?

Then, it is said, "It is best to use a gnomon of four fingers." It should be understood that measuring the shadow, it is easy and best to measure with a gnomon of four fingers' length. Measuring with feet etc. is slow, but with a gnomon it is fast. Therefore, it is best to measure with it itself, but not good with others. In order to indicate other unknown names, it is said, "That is called a person." It will become "best." The name of that gnomon should be said to be "person," and the shadow measured by the gnomon, however long it becomes, that much is called the "length of a person's shadow." Not only should the shadow be known, but also other things, such as the parts of day and night, morning, etc. What is called day and night is day and night. Its parts are morning, noon, afternoon, and the first watch of the night, etc., these should also be known. The sound of "etc." includes noon, etc. It also includes time, and what is called time, it should be known that it is a distinction of time. "Also" should be connected to "should be known." Then, how many of these times are there? It is said, "Those are five." Like this, in the previous sutra, the word time was used with only one final word, but here, it should be completely distinguished and used with many final words. It should be known that those times are five, this is a summary statement. What are those? It is said, "The season of winter, the season of spring, the season of summer, the season of short summer, the season of long summer." The object of winter is the season of winter. The object of spring is the season of spring. The object of summer is the season of summer. Because the time is short, like being dead, short is also it, and summer is also it, that is the season of short summer. Because the time is long, long is also it, and summer is also it, that is the season of long summer. In order to explain their length, it is said, "The first two are four months." Because it was said at the beginning of the sutra, the beginning

English

There are two: the seasons called winter and spring. The entity of four months is four months. The term "the following month" is because it is shown below those two. The term "following" refers to the summer season, which should be understood as one month. The term "the following is one day and night" follows the term "following" from the previous sutra. The following of that summer season should be understood as the short summer season. That is one day and night, the term for the sixteenth day of the last small summer month. The term "the last is that it exceeds three months" means that the last season, the long summer season, cannot be satisfied with just one day and night of the short summer season. Because it is the last entity, it is the last. After describing the seasons, the places should be described, which means that after the complete ordination, the places should be described to the one who performs the complete ordination. What are those? It is said that they are the wiping cloth place and so on. These are also four: the wiping cloth place, and alms, and under the tree, and respectful abandonment, these four places. Because it is abandoned like a wiping cloth, the cloth that is like a wiping cloth is the wiping cloth place. Or the cloth that is in the wiping cloths, called accumulated as a wiping cloth. Putting food and pouring it into a bowl and so on is alms. The shade of a tree is under the tree. Filtering with a net is respectful abandonment. Or that which is both respectful and abandoned is respectful abandonment. Those four should be understood as the places of pure conduct. The phrase "the dharmas that will cause downfall and" should be connected to the one who acts to speak. Because it is in accordance with the downfall of the objects of a monk, it will cause downfall, and those are the four that will appear from below, such as impure conduct. The phrase "the dharmas that practice virtue are also" should also be connected to the one who is to speak, even if scolded, do not scold again, even if angry, do not be angry again, even if beaten, do not beat again, even if exposed,
