If there are stones, etc., then this word becomes meaningful. When there are few people, do not strive to lift heavy objects. This means: If a monk belongs to a Sangha with few members who are striving, then he should not strive to lift heavy objects. This is its definition. This is what is taught here: If the Sangha to which a monk belongs is small, then at that time, the monk should not do things that help there. Do not go like a juggler, or like a wrestler accustomed to strength, this is its definition. Furthermore, just as when dog trainers play, they put their hands on the ground and raise their feet to the sky, it is not allowed to walk like that. Do not apply what has not been learned to learning, which means: A monk who has not learned should not apply it to learning for the sake of others. Because using swords, etc., can harm others, those who are not skilled should not apply it to learning. Do not incite the throwing of weapons, which means: Do not say things like "look at the arrow" or "throw" to those who are throwing arrows, etc., do not incite and speak, this is its definition. Do not lead a sick and weak person on the road, which means: Do not lead a sick person who is unable to walk on the road. This is because if harm such as death occurs due to the fatigue of the road, it is not allowed, therefore it is prohibited. Those who subdue know the downfall of killing, which means: The downfall of killing comes from the chapter of those who subdue, and it is finished. The downfall of killing is finished, which means: The downfall of killing has been explained. Having spoken of the downfall of killing, now the fourth downfall called "lying" will be discussed. What must be done to incur the downfall of lying? Therefore, having said, "Changing perception and saying that oneself possesses superior human qualities," it means that the speaker changes and hides the true perception of what is to be said, covers it with a false perception, and says that oneself possesses superior human qualities.

English

If one speaks and expresses that one possesses such a nature, it becomes a defeat called "speaking." Now, in order to show that one speaks of possessing the supreme qualities of a human being, one says, "I see, I see. I hear the sound, I hear. I go, I come to my presence, we converse together, I say come, we are all joyful individually, and always stay together with me," etc. Saying these words, that is, saying "I see, I see," etc., whatever is said, it should be regarded as speaking of possessing the supreme qualities of a human being. If one speaks by reversing the understanding in this way, it becomes a defeat. Words such as "converse with me" etc., cannot be mixed with (others), therefore, it should be transformed into the first person, that is, "they converse, they say come, they are joyful with each other, and they always stay together," one should also know to connect in this way. Does merely the words "I see, I see" become a defeat? Or does it depend on some companion? If so, is any kind of companion acceptable, or does it require a special companion? Therefore, it is said, "It is the nature of the companion of gods, nagas, yakshas, gandharvas, non-humans, great belly-crawlers, pretas, flesh-eaters, kumbhandas, and decaying corpses." Separate each of the gods, etc., and then connect it with the nature of the companion. Because the gods, etc., are seen by those who possess the supreme qualities of a human being with divine eyes, therefore they have the nature of a companion through seeing, etc., so (this is) showing oneself

It is done just like that. Because it makes it coarse, it is made to be dominated by coarseness. Its entity is that itself. Seeing gods and the like is the fruit of the superior human dharma, therefore it is indicated through that. Now, in order to indicate the nature, it is said that impermanence and other perceptions, dhyanas, immeasurables, formless realms, fruits, and superknowledges are superior dharmas. The so-called perceptions of impermanence and the like are ten perceptions such as the perception of impermanence, and ten perceptions such as the perception of impurity. Namely, the perception of impermanence, the perception of suffering in impermanence, the perception of no-self in suffering, the perception of unpleasantness in food, the perception of extreme displeasure in all the world, the perception of faults, the perception of abandonment, the perception of detachment from desire, the perception of cessation, the perception of death, the perception of impurity, the perception of being discolored, the perception of being festering, the perception of being decomposed, the perception of being eaten by worms, the perception of being eaten, the perception of being smeared with blood, the perception of being fragmented, the perception of a skeleton, and the perception of individually realizing emptiness. The first word "etc." gathers those perceptions mentioned in the sutras. The so-called dhyanas are the first dhyana and so on. The so-called immeasurables are loving-kindness and so on. The so-called formless realms are the sphere of infinite space and so on. The so-called fruits are the four fruits such as the fruit of stream-entry. The so-called superknowledges are the six superknowledges such as the realm of miraculous powers. The latter word "etc." should include the remaining qualities with and without outflows, and all of these are called superior human dharmas. Being dominated by coarseness refers to the cause of abiding, holding one's own characteristics, and subduing afflictions. The so-called abiding is samadhi.
