It will not become a defeat, because it is not necessarily stealing. Here, if a monk temporarily borrows something and denies it, what offense will be committed? A grave offense. If one denies borrowing something, what offense will be committed? A grave offense. These two situations sometimes become root offenses, namely, when one is attached. In front of a monk, if one denies taking something that someone else has placed there, what offense will be committed? A grave offense. Sometimes it becomes a root offense, namely, when one is attached, as it is said. There are two kinds of depositing: the owner does not know, and the caretaker hides it himself; in front of the caretaker, the owner hides it himself. Among them, if the owner does not know, and the caretaker hides it himself, only when he is attached will it become stealing, as it is said in the previous sutra, as shown by the word "depositing". In front of the caretaker, if the owner hides it himself, merely being attached to the place where it is placed is not necessarily stealing, because if it is moved from the place, it indicates stealing. Regarding depositing and hiding, if it is simultaneous with moving, or after moving, or if it is before, then it is another action. It is said that in front of the caretaker, if the owner himself deposits and hides something in a certain place, if the caretaker is attached simultaneously with moving it from that place, then at that time the complete offense is committed. If one first moves it from the place, and then is attached after moving it, then only when one is attached will it become stealing. If one is attached before moving it from the place, then that attachment is another action, and it should be known as another different grave offense. Therefore, it should be known that attachment and denial are different actions. Therefore, if one is attached first and then denies it later, then the attachment is overcome by the denial, therefore it is the action itself, and the attachment is a substantial grave offense. Thus, in this sequence there are two actions: attachment and denial. If one denies first

If one conceals it later, then at that time, the concealment is the very act of combining, since the concealment is interrupted by the act of concealing. Because concealment is the act of discernment. At the time of concealing, it is the act of combining, which is a major offense. At the time of moving it from its place, it is the act of stealing. Here, the rule is that if something is filled and placed in front of a monk, and he takes it while concealing it, he commits a major offense. Sometimes it can even lead to defeat. When does it lead to defeat? When one conceals it and the object is complete. If it is incomplete, it is a major offense. If one first conceals it and then moves it from its place, the offense is a major one at the time of concealment itself. If one first moves it from its place and then conceals it, it leads to defeat if the object is complete. If the object is incomplete, it is a major offense, so it is said. The acts of cutting the sinews and killing are shown to belong to the category of 'wasting' mentioned in the sutras. Therefore, it is said that cutting the sinews and killing are wasteful. The sinews of cattle and other animals, between the knee and the ankle, are called 'sgyid pa' (sinews). Causing cattle and other animals to lose their lives is called 'killing'. When, due to enemies and other causes, there is excessive haste, and cattle and other animals are unable to escape pursuit due to being cut, etc., saying 'May they be of no benefit to anyone,' and cutting and killing the sinews, one should understand that this is wasteful. That is, one should understand that these two acts also belong to the category of 'wasting' mentioned in the sutras, which says, 'Even if one does not claim ownership but hides, wastes, or abandons what has been seized, one loses.' Therefore, one should know that even if these two acts are complete, they only constitute a major offense and do not lead to defeat. Here, the mention of cutting the sinews is just an example. Other harmful acts, such as cutting the ribs, should be understood in the same way. Here, the rule is that if one kills, saying 'May it be of no benefit,' one commits a major offense. If one cuts the sinews, saying 'May it be of no benefit,' one also commits a major offense, so it is said. The sky of the boundary...
