English

The term "should be done" means that after the monks who abandon the third constant residence have finished their activities such as prostrating to the stupa, the remaining time is the time for reciting the third constant residence, and those who abandon it should do as they please. The term "should be done properly" means that "that" refers to the third constant residence. The term "should speak of merits" means that after reciting the third constant residence, the merits of giving should be proclaimed. How should it be done? Therefore, it is said "should be done properly," that is, to those who appear to be returning to their own dwellings in the evening, at the end of the night, it is seen that they are reasonable. The term "the attendant of the abandoner should gather first and dismiss last" means that it should be done by those who serve as attendants of abandonment. If such a circumstance arises, the hiding place of the key should be indicated, the term "if such a thing happens" means that because the important matter has not been completed, the hiding place of the key should be indicated, which is a summary statement. If the key has been placed in someone's hand or hidden somewhere before, and if such a circumstance arises that there is no time to go before, because the hider is leaving and cannot do it smoothly for the time being, therefore, if no other abandoners are seen at that time, this is what should be said. Here, one should come before all things. If such a circumstance arises, the place where the key is hidden should be stated, that is, it should be indicated. The one with life should see that the key is hidden in this direction and then take it out. From the basis of the Uposatha, it is the chapter of the Uposatha of tranquility. Having said "one should be satisfied with the place of the Uposatha," then what kind of place should one be satisfied with? Therefore, it is said that the place is all accomplished, or done, or completed, that is, for the place that is all accomplished, or all done, or all completed.

What is it? The so-called "completion" refers to being suitable for places where things are done, and so on. The so-called "accomplishment, done, and completed" are all complete, therefore accomplishment and so on are synonyms of names. These words will also be used for the incomplete, therefore this is the difference. The so-called "outer perimeter one bow and possessing" refers to what has become from the outer perimeter of the Sangha, and is about one bow in the vicinity, what is that, that is the so-called outer perimeter one bow and possessing. The so-called "possessing one bow of the outer perimeter" means that the word "edge" here is extracted from what the disciplinarian said, and its meaning is that it has become spaced, and the vicinity that has become outside that much together. If it is unwilling, should we also agree? No, therefore the Sangha must be willing. It is also said that the place of other activities is also there. After saying "the place of Uposatha," in order to eliminate those who think that other activities should not be there, this is said. Here, saying "Uposatha" is just an example, therefore it is said that activities reside separately, because they are included from the basis of Uposatha. The boundary should be demarcated. In the so-called "up to the edge of three and a half yojanas," the word "do" is connected with "as it is," meaning up to three and a half yojanas. Stones in various directions, walls, pillars, trees, fences, bird sheds, main roads, wells, etc., the monks who know those observe and speak stable signs in front of the Sangha.

Just as how to fully understand the land for a long time, so too, other signs must be clearly made above, therefore it is said to do so. If something is proven to be something else somewhere, then let it appear for a while, where the sign is called proof, such as erecting steles or stakes, etc., these are all included here. If it is allowed there, then it will not be separated from the Dharma robe, regarding this, "there" refers to the inside of the boundary. If it is allowed not to be separated from the Dharma robe, then here it will not be separated from the Dharma robe. Merely demarcating the boundary does not necessarily mean that it will not be separated from the Dharma robe, this is the meaning. What is called "to do" is to allow not to be separated from the Dharma robe, allowing not to be separated from the Dharma robe will be realized. Some may think that doing so is not allowed, so it is said. For all things, it is necessary to reach an agreement with the mandala, that is, to rely on all actions, and after the Uposatha to reach an agreement with the mandala. If the previous one has not been relaxed, other boundaries will not be formed, that is, for the boundary that has not been relaxed previously, other boundaries will not be formed. Therefore, if there is no agreement with the boundary of the mandala, and one wants to reach an agreement to demarcate the boundary, the boundary should be dissolved. Do not think that this is unreasonable. Therefore, it is said to dissolve the boundaries, because a mandala will not be formed on top of a large boundary, so it must be dissolved before doing it. With one sentence, two boundaries can be demarcated and dissolved, that is, it is reasonable to demarcate or dissolve two boundaries with one sentence, after arranging the Sangha in both boundaries, the Bhikshu who performs the Karma presses the two boundaries with wood or a stick or a staff, and then prays, and then performs the Karma, this is all included here. In a place where the boundary has not been demarcated, for the Karma, the wall is the boundary, that is, in a place where the boundary has not been demarcated, for the place where the Karma is performed, the wall of the temple itself is the boundary, this is the meaning. Here it is to exclude the boundary separated from the Dharma robe.
