In summary, if teaching the Dharma exceeds five or six words, it does not become a downfall, like this. Here, regarding the precept of taking what is not given, the Blessed One said that a bhikshu who steals five mashakas will eventually fall. To this, a monk asked: If a bhikshu steals, even if he steals a hundred or a thousand mashakas, will he not fall? The answer is: Yes, because a mashaka is stealing four, never five. But in action, each gross offense will arise. Because there is no difference, it is universally applied to all situations. Regarding the phrase "doing half and then doing," here the word "half" in "doing half" means a part. Regarding the phrase "starting to do, doing half, and then doing," the act of completing the remaining part is "half." Therefore, completing it is doing half. For an action not started, whatever fault there is, and whatever is said after that, this refers to completing it. For example, if slightly worn-out clothes are entrusted to a non-relative bhikshuni to mend, it constitutes a misdeed. Also, if slightly washed or half-cooked wool is entrusted to weaving, it constitutes a misdeed. Similarly, entrusting to washing or boiling is also the same. For both washing and cooking, if the nature changes, such as silk wool becoming old, sheep wool becoming old, or making it from black old sheep wool, it constitutes a misdeed. Those who slander what should be blamed, their part is what should be blamed, that is, that part should be regarded as the part that should be blamed. For example, slandering with gross offenses, downfalls, what should be confessed separately, and misdeeds constitutes a misdeed. For the three unpardonable sins, namely killing the father, killing the mother, and killing an arhat, if someone slanders, it constitutes a sanghavasesa. For the two unpardonable sins of causing division in the sangha and drawing blood from the Tathagata with malicious intent, if someone slanders, it does not constitute a gross offense, it only constitutes a misdeed. Doubt about everything.

Entering with doubt is with intention, named "is" or "is not." Is this my father, or is it not? Is this an Arhat, or is it not? Is this that, or is it not? And so on, for whatever enters into all bases, that is abiding with intention. And who is in front of it? Not all. For that, also at that time, abiding, is the meaning. Having intention is necessary, it is a definite intention. Definitely for this, there also does not closely gather, whether it is that or not that, abiding with such an intention. Is that this, or is it not? Thinking like this to kill, how to kill and doing, is a downfall. This is only a human, this is a non-human, thinking like this to kill, is the only defeat. This is a human, not a non-human, thinking like this. This is an Arhat, not an Arhat, thinking like this, killing mother etc., is also an action of immediate retribution. For whom I am attached, is that this, or is it not? Is this a woman, or is it not? Like this, one has not truly understood the object. For combination, recognition is a limb, named for combination, recognition is a limb, but it is not the meaning itself. For example, if one kills an animal thinking it is a human, then for the combination of that meaning, it will become coarse. And for a non-human thinking it is a human, because of that reason killing, the combination will become coarse. And taking what is not given, and the supreme Dharma and physical contact etc., also similarly combine accordingly. Thinking is that itself, named for thinking about a sentient being or an object, the one who enters, for what one enters, with the meaning of thinking, one's own nature itself is that limb. If the meaning is that itself, then for what does one begin, entering and thinking, is the limb that limb? At that time, the actual downfall will be accomplished. Like this, for example, among two people standing side by side, thinking to kill one, and as a result killing the other. Thinking to kill an Arhat, and as a result killing someone who is not an Arhat. Mother, named both parents and Arhat etc., named for Arhat etc. Human.
