La'o. Entering itself is called unfinished. Getting up for the sake of meditation should not be allowed, called sitting, which is meditation. It should not be regarded as an elder, that is, sitting should not be regarded as an elder. However, things happen this way: for the mats and other things needed for sitting, they should be used as they are. They should not be used as if treating an elder, therefore, this is what needs to be done. The scripture here is: When monks reside in secluded places and practice virtuous deeds, the group of six comes and says, "We are old," and asks for things. The Blessed One taught, "This should not be regarded as an elder." A monk should not be defiled by work and food, that is, he should not be defiled by starting work and food. One should not sit in a non-anointed place, that is, a place that does not belong to oneself is a non-anointed place, and one should not sit there. After finishing work, if one wants to wander and enjoy, one should not hold on to it. Wandering and enjoying means that one should enjoy in a suitable way. In the middle, getting up from the seat for some purpose should not be regarded as having finished the work, that is, because the middle is not finished, the end is also not finished, just like the things started from the kettle. Getting off the seat should not be regarded as having finished the work. At that time, the Dharma robe or knee pads should be placed on the seat. At that time, it is the time when time is wasted because the middle is not finished. If one wants and has a place, one should not rely on the Sangha's food, that is, if there are other things to do and there is a place to go, then one should not rely on the Sangha's contaminated items. If it is necessary, separating from that state is not a fault, that is, if it is necessary and there are other people who want it, then rely on those contaminated things. From that state, the items should be separated, and there is no fault in taking them away. If it is not necessary, is there no fault? Therefore, it is said, "If it is necessary."

Yes, it is necessary if there is a need, but not if there is no need. The Sangha's razor and razor case should be held. Saying "hairdressing tools are also acceptable" is to pursue items, so the word "also acceptable" is said. It is prescribed for the Sangha of monks. Putting it in a container and placing it on the wall refers to hairdressing tools. Here, the scripture says from the subtle points that a monk should hold hairdressing tools for the Sangha and put them in a container and place them on the wall. Axes, adzes, chisels, etc., and their containers are also acceptable, and to pursue the Sangha, they should also be held, so the word "also acceptable" is said. Saying "and their containers" refers to the containers of those such as axes, adzes, and chisels. Here, the scripture says that because they cannot split wood, the Blessed One taught: For the sake of the Sangha, axes, adzes, and chisels should be held. A monk's belt broke, and that monk said: I have a chisel here. The Blessed One taught: Do it in a secluded place. The Sangha's axe and container should also be held. If an individual holds it, it will be a serious offense. Saying "definitely borrowing, even things made of earth are given as alms" means that the Sangha gives to that monk, from the container of tools to the things used for work, even if there is a fault, in the form of a loan. A nun should not hold a needle case. Saying "everyone should hold an oil jar" refers to all monks and nuns. Saying "less than a handful to more than half a handful in capacity," here the word "more than" should be deleted, meaning half a handful in capacity. Saying "an iron pot is also acceptable" means that everyone should hold it. Saying "its iron stand is also acceptable" refers to the iron stand of the iron pot, whether it has three legs or four legs, it should be cut. Saying "a stove made of earth is also acceptable" refers to a large stove and a furnace, which should also be held. Saying "a staff with permission" refers to a staff with permission.
