Also, it is established in the same way as the monastic code for monks. Here, it should be added, "like that." The limit of the number of stories for monasteries is five. For nuns, it is three, which is the limit. Here, the scripture says that from scattered clauses, it is known that the monastery for monks should be built with five stories. The incense chamber should be built with seven stories. The pavilion above the gatehouse should also be seven stories. The monastery for nuns should be built with three stories. The incense chamber should be built with five stories. The pavilion above the gatehouse should also be five stories, and so on. The incense chamber and the pavilion above the gatehouse should be two stories higher than the monastery. If they collapse due to being too heavy, there is no fault in demolishing the stories. The "they" refers to the monasteries of monks and nuns. If they collapse due to being too heavy, there is no fault in demolishing the stories. However many stories are demolished, one or many, that many should be demolished. Eliminating through the seven powers, and the absence of fault, are implied through the monastery. Demolishing for the sake of building or expanding is also permissible, and this should also be added to "no fault." Here, the scripture says that if one cannot get people to continue building, demolish it and make it smaller, and let people build it, and one should not regret this. Demolishing stupas and statues for the sake of building is without fault, but demolishing them to make them smaller is faulty. Demolishing because of old age, even if it is completed, is also permissible to make it the same as before. Here, the word "also" is spoken to follow the word "even." For those unfinished buildings, demolishing solely for the sake of building is without fault, and demolishing to make it the same as before is also without fault. For those that are so old that they cannot be built by repairing, demolishing to restore them to their original state is without fault, and it should be understood that this is how it is said. Repairing one part

"It is also permissible for the sake of..." means that there is no fault in demolishing a part of a stupa or statue to repair a dilapidated part. Here, the scripture states that when stupas and statues become dilapidated, the Blessed One taught, "They should be repaired." The previous scripture stated that when crude and simple statues become dilapidated, monks should not regret repairing them. The Blessed One taught, "The remaining or smaller parts to be made should not be made." Here, stupas and statues are the same, and in any case, there is no difference in the type of words used to describe these compared to those. Therefore, both of these can be known from two scriptures. "Repairing umbrellas and the like is also permissible" means that there is no fault in removing things from stupas and statues in order to repair dilapidated parts. The word "etc." includes rain covers and the like. "It is also permissible for the sake of placing others" means that not only is there no fault in removing things to repair dilapidated parts, but there is also no fault in removing things to place other things. "For that purpose, do not remove the old one without placing the new one" means that for the purpose of placing other things, do not remove the old umbrella or the like without placing the new one. Here, the scripture states that when the umbrellas and the like offered by others become worn out, the Blessed One taught, "Do not remove the old one until the new one has been placed." "Drawings of Jataka tales and the like, and letters of the Buddha's teachings" means that there is no fault in erasing those to repair dilapidated parts. If asked, why erase them? The answer is: For that reason, it is only for redrawing the original category that it is said. It is for redrawing the original category that it is erased, not for other purposes. "If the author does not complete it, others may complete the remainder" means that if the person who is building a stupa or temple does not complete it after starting, there is nothing unreasonable in others completing the remainder.
