Oh! The meaning of "older among equals" is that in the case of equality in the Pratimoksha vows, the older one is to be respected with the Pratimoksha vows, not by the age of the younger one. It means that the one who took the Bhikshu vows earlier should be respected by the one who took them later. One who has already taken the Bhikshu vows should be respected by one who has taken the Bhikshu vows. A Bhikshu should respect a Bhikshu. A Bhikshuni should respect a Bhikshuni. One who has already taken the Bhikshuni vows should be respected by a Bhikshuni. One who has already taken the Pravrajya vows should be respected by a Bhikshuni. A Shramanera should respect a Bhikshu who has already become a Bhikshu with the Pravrajya vows. A Shramanerika should also respect a Shramanerika, as it is said, therefore, one should pay respect to that. The previous Sutra said that the Pravrajita should respect the one who is श्रेष्ठ (Sanskrit, Śreṣṭha, श्रेष्ठ, superior) in the Pratimoksha vows, then the Shramanera should respect the Bhikshuni and the Bhikshuni. This Sutra says that the older one among equals, the Bhikshu and the Bhikshuni are also equal in the Pratimoksha vows, then the Bhikshu should respect the Bhikshuni. The Shramanera and the Shramanerika are also equal in the Pratimoksha vows, then the older Shramanerika should be respected by the Shramanera, in order to eliminate these, the difference between these two Sutras should be explained. Therefore, it is said "those whose names are not different", this ritual is for those whose names are the same, but not for those whose names are different. Just as a man does not respect a woman, in order to specifically exclude a woman from not respecting a man, it is said "a woman to one who is not inferior to a man", if someone is not inferior to a woman in the Pratimoksha vows, then a woman should respect even a newly ordained person, let alone one who is simultaneous or older? What does this mean? In order to specifically exclude all these rituals, those who live in other places, have fallen, Bhikshunis who have been expelled, those who are in accordance with non-Dharma aspects, those who live in different places, those who live in different places, those who are sleeping, those who are in Samadhi, those who are busy, and those whose minds are elsewhere.

It is mentioned that "except for being ill, turning one's back, staying in another's house, and being at the dining table." The term "staying in another place" refers to giving teachings such as complete abiding, and giving offerings that are in accordance with seeking its own nature. The term "decayed" means not to abide. The term "expelled bhikshuni and one who has committed an unforgivable crime" refers to those who have entered non-Buddhist paths, live by stealing, are hermaphrodites, and are not fields for vows. Mentioning "being in accordance with the non-Dharma side" refers to the distinction of abiding with difference. The term "abiding with difference in accordance with the non-Dharma side" refers to paying homage to the difference of abiding in accordance with the Dharma side. Mentioning "being in accordance with the non-Dharma side" implies that one's own side should also not be paid homage to, so here it includes the situation of abiding with difference. The term "lying down" refers to lying down after taking off clothes. The term "entering into samadhi" refers to meditation. The term "busy" refers to the mind being focused on pursuing activities. The term "mind has wandered elsewhere" refers to not giving attention to paying homage. The term "turning one's back" refers to facing forward. The phrase "staying in another's house" combined with "staying in the house" means staying in the house of a layperson. The phrase "for a layperson who has renounced" means that homage should be paid to all other situations except for those mentioned above. Staying in another's house should also not be excluded, because another's house is the place of activity for laypeople. Even so, the scripture here also records that a householder's wife, named Great Bliss Mother, arose with faith, came out of her dwelling, and paid homage to the feet of the Blessed One. It is also heard that in order to restore life by sprinkling water, the long-lived one paid homage to the feet of the small path and asked for forgiveness. For all other unexcluded situations, even laypeople should not pay homage, because for situations such as complete abiding, it is also mentioned that it is not in accordance with it, so laypeople should also not pay homage, this is emphasized.
