It means focusing on food. The so-called "not being distracted in mind" means focusing wholeheartedly on food, not partially. Reduce sound with mindfulness. The so-called "not combining with that," where "that" refers to not making a sound. The so-called "not arising then combining," means combining with the word "sound." The so-called "not making a crunching sound," means not making a crunching sound. The so-called "those that make sound should be covered with water, etc.," refers to things that are to be eaten. The so-called "not to play music for the sake of eating," means not to play music such as singing, dancing, and cymbals for the sake of eating. Here, the scripture is that when Amraka invited the Sangha for a meal, they began to play music, and the Blessed One taught: A bhikshu should not eat while playing music, otherwise, it will be a serious offense. There is no fault in playing music at house festivals and stupas. Playing music with the mouth, because it is not complete, if done so, because it is very disgusting, it will be a minor offense. The so-called "should not do while explaining," here refers to expounding the Dharma and merits, here it is read as "explaining." Because the Blessed One said that expounding the Dharma is also inappropriate, so there is no distinction here. The so-called "should understand separately," refers to expounding merits. Here, the scripture is that the Blessed One said that if the bhikshus are expounding merits, then they should not eat at that time. If the time is about to pass, two or three verses can be recited. Here, the scripture is that it is allowed to explain, and then eat. If there is concern that it is past noon, then one should not eat until two or three verses have been recited. If explaining alone, one should not eat until two or three sentences have been explained, and this should also be understood accordingly. For others, there is no downfall. If eaten, recite the verses of the scriptures. When inviting guests after eating, expounding merits and Dharma
