In any case, if one steals five mashakas, it will become the end of downfall. Twenty mashakas equal one nanaka. If asked how it is, four kakas equal one mashaka. If asked what a karshapana is, it is a nanaka. This is what is called stealing a quarter of it. Here, the word mashaka itself expresses the meaning, therefore the meaning of karshapana is the sound of nanaka, and therefore it leads to downfall. If that is the case, then doesn't the question "What is a karshapana like?" not stand? It is not like that, because the matter of "what was done" and "how it was arranged" is for the sake of letting all those who approach understanding know this principle. Even so, through the phrase "having stolen," the king points out the act of stealing to those who approach understanding. In these texts, twenty mashakas are what is said to be a karshapana. If asked, "What is a karshapana like, that stealing five mashakas will become the end of downfall?" then this meaning is not the main one. Therefore, here the five is just an example, referring to a quarter of a karshapana. Likewise, it can be understood very clearly from the basis of the conversation: If a monk is asked whether stealing three mashakas will lead to a defeat, the answer is yes. In the case where twelve mashakas equal one karshapana. If asked whether stealing more than five mashakas will not lead to a defeat, the answer is yes. In the case where forty mashakas equal one karshapana. Therefore, the meaning there is that stealing ten mashakas will lead to defeat. Now, here one karshapana equals sixteen panas, therefore, now here stealing four panas should be understood as leading to defeat. The so-called "the place and time of stealing will determine the arrangement of its value" refers to the value calculation of the place of stealing and the time of stealing, whether the value of the karshapana is twelve mashakas equal to one karshapana, or sixteen mashakas, or twenty mashakas, or forty mashakas, or other similar value calculations, after calculating, stealing a quarter of the karshapana will be considered to lead to defeat. The value calculation of other countries, other times, and other regions cannot be used for the calculation of other countries, times, and regions.

No. If it is said that value cannot be measured by its own size, that is the ultimate. That is to say, if value cannot be measured by the largest diamond or other precious jewels, that is the ultimate. This should be recognized. Because the price of five mashakas, etc., cannot be changed, this sutra was taught to eliminate the idea that failure would occur here. Failure means stealing, which means devaluation. If it is said that it is not allowed there because it is small, it is because it is not included. The "there" refers to the inability to measure value. If value cannot be measured by smallness, then what is not allowed is not included there, meaning that it is a gross transgression. Among them, the relics of the Buddha are immeasurable jewels. Immeasurable means impossible, because it has reached the ultimate. The jewel that cannot be measured in any way is immeasurable, meaning that it is the relics of the Buddha. For example, if someone steals a jewel of immeasurable value that has the nature of a gem and is possessed by generations of human beings with the intention of stealing, if its value remains as it is, then at that time there will be failure. If its value does not remain as it is, then it is not a transgression. Similarly, this should be done for the relics of the Buddha. During the customary time in which it is located, if someone makes a distinction, it should be known that this will cause a transgression. If someone abandons it to someone or to some people, thereby distinguishing its value, this is grasping, that is, doing so after abandoning it. Even if it is known that it has great value and possesses essence, but wherever it is abandoned, so that everyone distinguishes the value as small, then the worldly value itself will lead to transgression. For the purpose of offering, that is an offense. That is to say, it is not with the intention of possession, nor with the intention of others, therefore it is an offense.
