Regarding dwelling in inferiority, one should act in this way towards them. Having separated them in the vicinity where they appear in such a way, due to the dwelling of formation and extreme reverence, and having directed them manifestly towards the assembly, one should place them with joined palms. When it is said, "that," it refers to one who desires full ordination. "Having separated" means secretly instructing them, so that the task assigned to them is not heard. Placing them separately from within the center of the Sangha is what is meant here by the word "separated." For those who have been separated, one should place them with joined palms, manifestly directed towards the assembly. One should not do this without separating them from within the Sangha; this is a definitive statement. One should not speak of the places to householders. One should not speak of them to those who have just been fully ordained; the word "places" enters into this. One should not speak of the places to those who dwell in households, until they become renunciates. Below this, in the scripture, it is this: Another Brahmin boy renounced and was fully ordained. The abbot said, "Go for alms until..." When he said this, he replied, "I am weary of wandering for alms. Even if I renounce, must I still beg for alms?" Thus, he offered the precepts and was ruined. Then the Blessed One gave the teaching: "Immediately after full ordination, one should speak of the four places." This is the summary of this. From where there is no place, one should not dwell there in self-determination or promise to dwell. One should not keep a previous promise to dwell. This means that having promised in a place where there is no place, one sees the later promise fulfilling the meaning. Seeing this statement, one should understand that if the previous one is broken, one should promise the later one. It should be understood as such. Regarding the latter, even if it is more than two months, the word "latter" refers to the one who promises. If there is no place for more than two months, one should not keep it. After that, the word "also" is for the purpose of negation. Even without relying on two months, one should dwell. This should be understood here. One should seek it with the preparation of place, work, and proximity. When it is said, "that," it refers to the place. One should thoroughly seek this place with the preparations of place, etc. The preparation for the place is the preparation for the dwelling house.

Because there are many individuals in the Sangha suitable for dwelling, one should search, which is the saying of the majority. If not, one should request the eldest among the young, where "if not" refers to dwelling. To explain the phrase "not having relied on the summer retreat," for those who should dwell, if within one year the teacher passes away, and after the summer retreat, they leave without dwelling in the monastery, for these individuals, even if they do not dwell in the monastery, one should not (do something), if (one does something) there will be a serious fault. However, one should request the eldest among those individuals, and after that, one should search for the dwelling teacher of the Sarvastivada school, this scripture is a summary. In reality, the eldest young person among those individuals is the one who dwells. The eldest will be allowed to the young person, this should be understood as not dwelling in the dwelling. If it exists, it is only a temporary dwelling, this refers to the dwelling. If it exists, the support is the support. One should request the eldest among the young. The scripture here is like this: the temporary dwelling itself will make this person equal to the Khenpo. You should request this person. This person will teach you, and will also read, this is said to the emanation from the basis of ordination. Without requesting, neither I nor he will perform acts of reverence and service to such a person. Here, "such a person" refers to knowing or suspecting that they are a renunciate of a different tradition. Starting to completely search for someone suitable to dwell, if not, there is no fault in not dwelling there. No fault means without defect. If not means the support. To whom is there no defect? Therefore, it is said to start completely searching and so on. How long is the time? Therefore, it is said until the end of five days, meaning until the end of five days. If one can find it within five days, then it is suitable. The scripture here is: from the fundamental matters, for the non-dweller, for how long should one search in the area? Up to five days nearby. If one finds it, then it is suitable.
