It should be observed. "Those that should be cut off" refers to vessels such as begging bowls. "The hanging cords should not be placed equally on them" means to sew them closely together. "To those" refers to the hanging cords of vessels such as begging bowls, meaning that they should be placed by abandoning them equally. Thus, the topic is, "O noble one, what is this? Is it a clay drum?" Therefore, this is the main point to correct the doubt of equal placement. "Because one does not want suffering, even a small width" means that the hanging cords should be sewn with felt. What is the reason? "Because one does not want suffering, one should not make it bend" means that one should not give desire. If one does not give desire, from what aspect? Therefore, "in the middle" is mentioned, and "hanging cords" should be understood through context. "The difference is in the middle of this, not in the length" means that it should be understood through meaning. In order to make it abide, it should be sewn like a crow's foot. The begging bowl should be protected like an eye. The monastic robe should be like leather. The remaining Dharma garments are also the same. "One should not abandon the excellent repair" refers to mending, warming, washing, using, and changing, which are the rituals for both the begging bowl and the Dharma garments. Here, mending should be done in a secluded place. If this is done without concealment, it will become an object that generates distrust, and this sutra is for explaining this. The Sangha should mix blacksmith tools. "That hole" refers to mending. It is not good to use jaggery and pomegranate joints, beeswax, white lead, and black lead. Then what is good? Therefore, it is mentioned that "long seams and short marks, as well as mending and crocodile teeth, are good." Also with flour. With iron or stone. The phrase "mending is good" is connected subsequently. "Rubbing with oil residue" means with flour. How long should it be rubbed? Therefore, it is mentioned, "Until it reaches the point of being like beeswax." What substance should be rubbed? Therefore, iron or kuruvinda is mentioned.

Furthermore, it is said that oil and flour should be mixed and applied, and kneaded until it becomes like butter. This is the meaning. To say that it is applied warmly means the bowl. According to the context, it is understood that the warm bowl is applied with kneaded flour. Covering with barley and applying mud, then burning it like pottery, this is connected to what follows. If asked how to mix it warmly? Therefore, it is said that the middle is kneaded with oil, meaning that the one to be applied should be applied and kneaded with oil. To say with molasses and mud, it refers to the bowl made of earth, which is applied with molasses and mud. To say the five places such as seams, they are blocked with molasses and mud. Therefore, one should know how to connect the remaining with the previous. If it is used, then separately bringing the gathered things closer is a method. So, after how long should the bowl be burned without gathering, and with what? Here it should be said that if it is used, then it should be burned after six months. This is a special explanation for the bowl made of earth. If it is said to be made of earth, then it should be burned in half a month, which is connected to the meaning of burning. If it is not used, then how to reconcile so that the bowl gathers separately? If summer comes, then during that time, it should be well repaired with application and rough washing. This is the giving to beings who are not harmed and have no ability. This refers to living in the burned place, said for the sake of living. Between work refers to the time between two needs. There, this bowl should be well repaired with washing and rough washing. Having done the work, that is, applying and then placing it. Rough washing should also be done at other work times. Therefore, it should be understood that this means to repair well. To say to burn it, that refers to the bowl. This is not what one should not do oneself, meaning that this is not what a renunciant should do himself.
